It's wrong that I'm becoming desensitized to that... I watched the TOS episode 'Shore Leave' yesterday, and there's a scene in the start where Kirk is complaining to Spock of lower back pains, and a female Yeoman starts massaging him... and he initially thinks that Spock is doing it. When he realizes it's not Spock he looks a little annoyed...
...or maybe that image has seeped too deeply into my brain and I'm imagining things.

But playing on this disturbing angle, and taking it back to the thread topic: the Spock/Kirk dynamic is similar to Leela/Fry. Leela being the impassive Logical counterpart to Fry's impulsive passion.
There. Will anyone look at Fry and Leela the same way again?

Not once the Zoidberg = McCoy and Amy = Nurse Chapel idea comes in to it, no.

Though you might like it more. :P

In fact that's a picture worth a thousand highly erotic words...

You forget, as any Trek fan knows, Chapel is hot for Spock...  ;)

No, it's not my 'ship if you're wondering.

Xanfor your obscure vader picture is awesome I have saved this to my PC, also it is thus far the most compelling post on this page so far!

Back to the earlier suggestion about Fry making Leela jealous as a vehicle for motivating her passion. I was just watching 'a flight to remember' I had forgoten about this but Leela gets incredibly jealous of Fry's fake relationship with Amy. In fact later they almost kiss until the ship starts careering into the black hole! Incidentally that has got to be one of Zapp's most impressive blunders!

What Fry should have said:
"Girls, girls - you can BOTH have me."

Yeah, at that point Leela had some very blatant feelings for Fry... which she overcompensated for with kneejerk violent threats - "take it off or I'll break it off." But later, in Put Your Head on My Shoulder, she's gained greater control.

I. Did. Not!   :p
Also, Yoeman Janice Rand is hot for Kirk, and they were originally intended to be a romantic couple... but she wasn't around long enough for anything to play out. The actress, Grace Lee Whitney, had some kind of falling-out with the producers or something.

I forgot about that. My brain hurts right now from school.

You can have all the Leela/Amy or Spock/Kirk fanaties you want. I know who I'll fantasize about. Wasn't Rand in like 8 episodes? Here Wikipedia says something about Grace Lee Whitney getting sacked and drug and sex addictions or somthing.

Here's one for you. How many of you shippers are just in it to see Fry and Leela knocking boots? Or are you of the pure love school of relationships where sex isn't necessary?

Cos it isn't. Necessary, I mean. But it would be fun.

I don't know.
I found out that I have Schizoid Personality Disorder (SPD); thus I have no interest in social relationships, I'm solitary, secretive, and emotionally cold... among other things. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizoid_Personality_Disorder

So when you ask about relationships, I have no opinion.

I tend to agree with Deca about the zero thing. Now earlier in the episode when Fry and Amy told everybody about what happened Leela looked almost angry. I think that's a much better example.

It's probably her weird self-deluding passive-aggressive way of manifesting her jealousy.

I agree with these observations, Iam divided though on whether these reactions are due to her love for Fry or her pathological need for validation in terms of fry's repeated advances that she never intends to respond to.

It would be very interesting to see what would happen if Fry was to deprive leela of this attention for a sustained period.

My suspicion is that leela is caught between the need for the validation that Fry's advances afford her and powerfull feelings for Fry that she is very uncomfortable with and tries hard to disguise.

I would add that in my humble opinion Leela's discomfort with these feelings comes from an innate fear of intimacy, probably tied in with child hood experience of having no close significant others [i.e parents or guardians of her own].

Maybe I'll do that.

.

Regarding the Fry/Leela subplot

And I personally learned something surprising about how DXC and co view Fry:

I reviewed other aspects of the movie on the review thread.

Let me guess... there's the ship between Fry/Leela and a ship between Leela/Guy on Nudist Planet.

Regarding the Fry/Leela subplot

Ah, this better not be my theory on how a romance between Fry/Leela would lead to unhappiness for one or both of them compared to the new romance that sprouted with Leela's new love in the movie.
