Mmm... for that to work though, we'd need to retcon some events in between episodes, which becomes something of a fan-made continuum. To be avoided if at all possible... Keep it to fanfics, eh?
If I had the Devil's hands, I'd use them to paint... because presently I suck.

There was as far as i can see no clear evidence that Fry and Leela were dating in 300BB's. Of Course the whole Scenario of what was going on between Fry and Leela it would seem had been made deliberatly ambigous, to fuel massive speculation and anticipation. Mmm... for that to work though, we'd need to retcon some events in between episodes, which becomes something of a fan-made continuum. To be avoided if at all possible... Keep it to fanfics, eh? What alternative is there until the writers true intent is perhaps revealed in future episodes. Potentially the events going on in between episodes will always remain unrevealed and then it is left to us, the fans to fill in that 'continuum'.

It wouldn't really be necessary for us to "fill in" what happens between episodes. Like reality TV, we are watching the most important events happening, and there probably isn't anything really going on between episodes that really affects the plot at all. The crew would probably be going on deliveries and Fry would make advances which Leela would deny. The whole shabang.

[Yodas voice] SO CERTAIN ARE YOU![/Yodas voice] It seems a lot of people are very concrete about their beliefs pertaining to the order of things in and around Futurama! Yes I use the word belief quite deliberately for it would seem certain facts are taken almost as articles of faith. I think it is quite reasonable for us to surmise what might have been going on behind the scenes, and unless future plot lines prove us wrong, where is the harm?

I never said anyway that fanfiction was the stuff between episodes, what I was alluding to was that it is not sacrilidge to surmise what lay between episodes! Fanfiction themes exist along entirely different axis altogether as i see it, or at least along tangents to the main continuum that is the official plot line.

I read that. Nicely written, but it was the worst characterization I have ever seen in a fanfic, and I read many. My beloved Fry was DESTROYED! And by the way, that fic IBD1 linked to is made of win. Fry sat in the shadow of the sun on S-8, drawing a picture of his lost love. He started with her hair. It had ruffles that were like waves and came back in a ponytail. It was purple, not a dark purple or a really light one, just purple. He drew the front part first and slowly worked his way to the end of the tail. It was a fantastic ponytail. Then he started with her eye, it was big and oval and pretty much all white with the exception of the pupil which was black. He drew the top of the oval. It was a great top and the bottom would be even better. He finished the bottom and indeed it was. He took his pen up from the paper and put it back down and made the pupil. It was a fine, beautiful pupil. He mad the nose. It was basically a curve but what a great curve it was. Such a fine, large and noble curve. Then he put the lip area on. He started with the top and finished with the bottom. He added some fingers on the right arm. He did the pinkie finger. What a fine finger it was. Then he did the ring finger. What a fantastic finger! Then he added the middle finger. Spectacular finger! Then he added the index finger, and my was it a great finger.

Then he added the index finger, and my was it a great finger. He added her legs. He started with the one leg and finished with the other. He added her feet. He started with one toe, then the next toe, then the next toe, then the next toe, and the last toe. He started on the feet too.
Then he started coloring her in. He made her hair purple. It was a good purple, not too dark and not too light. He made her skin tan. A nice tan, but not too dark so she wouldn't get cancer. He made her shirt white and her pants black. He even made her boots black. It was the best drawing he had ever done. Best three paragraphs I've ever read.

But here's something that used to help me when that happened. First, understand intellectually that this story is NOT about Leela and Fry. It's about two other people entirely to which she's just grafted Fry and Leela's appearances and names to. Let's call them Frank and Lola. Now, the story may be a very good one about Frank and Lola, but not the kind of thing I'm interested in. I want Fry and Leela, by which I mean ones that bear an actual resemblance to the people I got to know and love on Futurama. ^^ Ah, was waiting for the reference to that article...
Anyway, I'd still say what Leela and Fry did during 300BB was just hanging out. No 'raisin', except for the plot holes in The Devil's Hands that it would cover up.

I always saw it as her just warming up to him more and spending more time with him outside of work. Doesn't mean they were dating or anything just closer friends.

I always found it telling, especially on Leela's part, that they choose to spend all their time together outside of work even though they're in each other's company all through the work day. You'd think they'd be sick of one another after a long haul on the PE ship, getting on each other's nerves the whole time, but when they have shore leave they always seem to spend it together. Much like Kirk, Spock, and McCoy in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, there is much unrelsolved romantic tension.
