Okay, yes, we all know Leela is a mutant.. I just wanted to grab your attention.  My question is..

Do you think there might be an episode dealing with the fact that Leela is a mutant and since she is a mutant, she won't be able to live on the surface anymore?  That would be interesting/sad..

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I'm new and lazy  :)  Tell me your thoughts!!

She'll only be banished to the sewer if the government finds out she's a mutant. The only people who know she's a mutant are her co-workers.

I'd guess that we'd see some F/L drama, some hilarious hijinks to get try to get out of it, and by the end of the episode everything would be fine.

Not likely since the government would have to admit it made a mistake. Then it would have to create a process to study the feasability of changing it's designation.

But if it happens she could live in Fry's parent's house. She might try to get her parents to move in too but it would probably too fancy for them.

I've wondered about an episode like that too.  You've get Bender and Hermes who would both turn her in if given the right reason ($50 cash or bureaucratic correctness).  On space pilot 3000 you think the government is powerful and oppressive, but pretty soon we found out it is a bungling, apathetic democracy.  Nixon could try to banish Leela to win political points on the anti-mutant bandwagon. Sine Wave is right that there would be a lot of hijinks involved to get back to normal.  They could parody any number of stories about a government hunting down an individual.  It would probably end with a pardon by Nixon. Yep, this has "comedy" written all over it...no, seriously, it does!

gwyn, are you welsh or do you just have an odd screen name?

Nah, Leela's too normal to be living in the sewers. She'd just be ripping off April O'Neil

Ig it came to the attention of the Earthican government that Leela was a mutant, she'd likely be banished to the sewer. Where she would bristle with rage and organise an armed rebellion. In a scene reminiscent of "A Tste of Freedom", they would rise against the human population and bring Earth to its knees. Following some hilarious battlefield incompetency by Zapp, there would be a brief negotiation and normality would be restored.

Or something similar.

I don't think anything bad would happen to Leela if people found out she was a mutant.  Nobody expect the PE Crew knows she is, anyway.  Besides, Leela is the least mutated mutant ever, so no she would not get banished to the sewers.

Why were mutant banished to the sewers? Most of the aliens are more gross than them.

On the surface (no pun intended), irony. On a deeper level, to show that there will always be unfounded prejudice no matter how far our society advances.

That's actually a half-way decent idea for an episode. Except I'm not sure that I want Leela to be away from all the other main characters for so long. How about if Fry puts on a really lame mutant disguise so that he can go with her?    :p

Cool idea, I could see Fry doing that. Though maybe by that point Fry and Leela will be together, so Fry'll be banished along with Leela untill they find some sorta loophole and stop the fighting.

I think that sounds like a great story line for an episode as it would extend the subject of Leela's origins into ethical views, of being 'allowed' to stay up on the surface with the other 'normals'. As we have figured out that she is actually a mutant now, so any more episodes advancing on this subject would be much welcomed personally  :D.

Never. You see, the only reason the mutants live in the sewer is because they're repulsive. Leela is not. Therefore, no one cares, or will care.

I think Morris has some sort of skin thing going on, though, seeing as he can shed huge chunks of it on the living room couch.  There might be a reason we've never seen him without long sleeves....

EDIT: I don't think it's the attempted nerdiness that's working for that picture.   :p

I may know the picture of which you speak. Is it "Mutant Girl" by S.I.D. on TTP? Note I said I "kinda" like her, so I had to go and look for it.

Now I wouldn't mind to see an occasional mutant like that walking the streets. Come to think of it I may already have on Sunset Blvd.

Great sweater p...p... er... picture. Which comic did that Leela picture come from?

I think we found out when an animator (Sarge?) or one of the showrunners let slip that Leela's parents were named Turanga Morris and Turanga Munda, either shortly before or after Leela's Homeworld aired.

Come to think of it, I think that's how we found out Munda's name as well.  I don't recall it ever being spoken aloud in any episode.  :hmpf:
