She obviously wants kids, that was made pretty clear in cyberhouse rules. All she wants is someone mature that she can have serious conversations with and raise a family with and as long as Fry is more of a child then a man, then its perfectly understandable why her feelings about him would be mixed. She does like him, shes admitted to that and yes obviously theres an attraction, but you can't build a solid relationship on physical attraction alone.Don't get me wrong, im a Fry/Leela shipper and i love all the moments between them and im positive they will get together eventually. But i can fully sympathize with leela, theres no point in trying to make her the bad guy and blaming her for not getting with him, he still has a lot of growing up to do.

The way I see it, it wouldn't totally destroy the series if they were a couple. I mean, look at Everybody Loves Raymond. That show thrives off of the central idea that two people care about each other enough to get married and have kids. And it consistantly ranks as one of the most watched TV shows and was nominated for numerous Emmys! I don't think the show needs to head in that direction, but I'm guessing that about half of the posters here think that it will eventually happen or be implied. Maybe in the last season, which I'm hoping won't be for a while. It's like the season finale, should-have-been-series, of the X-Files where it's revealed that Mulder and Scully did have a thing for each other, and our suspicions concerning Scully's baby were put to rest, as we now know that Mulder's a sperm-donating dad. If Fox hadn't demanded another season, I think that would've been a wonderfully fitting conclusion. But we're not talking about the X-Files, we're talking about Futurama. So, if the writers decide to make us wait, at least keep dropping the hints and if you make them a couple, let's hope it's not as predictable as "Friends". It'd be so depressin to hear Fry screaming, "We were on a break!"

I hope they don't bring Fry and Leela together. To make them interesting to eachother would ruin their unique personalities.

Although he is in his mid-twenties Fry is nothing more than a big teenager, and thats what makes him funny. He and Bender is just trying to have a good time and basically goof off. He may go out on occasional dates (as with Amy) or try to hook up with a girl on The Hip Joint (Loves Labour...), but he is not interested in a lasting relationship. Ofcourse he is interested in Leela (he is a guy after all), but I think he has settled down to the fact that they are just good freinds. And I like the Fry I see now (Around "Lesser of two Evils" ): helping his freinds, goofing off, being the perfect foil for Bender and yet still pretty innocent to the world of 3000.

Leela, well I always liked Leela. She's an independant strong-willed woman that binds the Planet Express together and makes sure that the jobs is actually been done. She is funny because she takes everything as it comes and nothing seems to give her pause or scare her (well, except waking up beside the Zapper, but who wouldn't be shocked by this. I know I would :)) She is not as physically funny as Fry, her strength is more the verbal side of it, and especially when reacting to some of Fry's goofines. She likes Fry and probably considers him a very good freind. Since she is such a serious person (she was after all a cop once) I think she likes the fact that Fry makes her look at life with more childlike joy, for example the scene in the moon lander in "The Series has Landed". And she was really touched by Fry's attempt to by her a gift in "X-mas Story", it made her feel a lot less lonely.

But I hope that they will never be a couple because that would ruin all theese fine things in their freindship that I see developing. Differences can strengten a freindship, but if they are as fundamentally opposite as Fry's and Leela's is they could ruin a relationship (and here I'm speaking from experience  ). If Fry should be "mate-material" to Leela he had to become much more grown up, and then I think his chracter is ruined.

And just to forestall the obvious response:

I know: It's just a cartoon. But I like Futurama very much: it's funny, it has great characters, pretty good stories and the background jokes is sometimes just too hillarious to handle. So I would be displeased if they very trying for something that I felt could ruin the show.

But if it was the absolutely, certified, cross-your-heart-and-hope-to-die last season/episodes of Futurama ever, by all means go for it if thats what is naturally.

Okay I'll stop now. ;) :D

I always thought that it was too girly to get into the dwellings of Fry and Leela's relationship but my view has changed slighty having read a few posts, mainly Shiny's but some others too. Now I think that Fry and Leela should get together, if only for one episode. ---- That was a very girly post, I'm going to drink Beer and watch porn for a bit........*walks off*

I have just decided that Fry and Leela getting together would be spectacular. Whilst the reasoning is secure in my head, I have absolutley no way of expressing it. Sure I've been a shippy fan before now (Just check out my fic) but I was never sure they should get together in the show.

Now, in unrelated news, there is a new fanfic writer in the fiction forum. Quite frankly, when it comes to spoofs and comedy in general, he makes me want to give my fic so far a complete rewrite. His thread is here, so drop on by. I know he'd appreciate it.

And now, the personals!

@FedEx(aka HopelessShipper): I got the joke. I thought my funny smilie would accentuate it. What can I say? Oh, right, oops, sorry.

@daztree: You're gonna watch porn? How about something a little more Futuramashippery? Like, say this, maybe. Yes, indeed, oh my, oh my, oh --- That's enough now.

I mean no offense - I'm not trying to imply that you're not up to my level of Futurama geekiness or anything - it's just, A, You're a male and I'm a female, and analyzing relationships to death is what my gender is trained to do since birth in this culture; B, I'm somewhat obsessive and anal retentive, and analyzing EVERYTHING to death is something I have compulsively done almost since birth; and C, while I hide the full extent of it, at heart I'm really just a big, sappy, pathetic, mushy, romantic fool who gleefully wallows in shippiness six times before breakfast every day - and you just don't strike me that way. (Correct me if I'm wrong, please. ;) )

Anyway - I know very well Fry was attracted to Leela from day 1, but "attracted to" and "in love with" are not the same thing.

And the thing is, even if they were the same thing, then this episode still scores points against your premise that Fry finds bossiness attractive. He wasn't attracted enough to Leela in BBA to even think twice about holding a mutiny (although he did have the grace to be ashamed when she brought up their friendship, he still found underpants more attractive than Leela here...his OWN underpants, even. :hmpf: )

If anything, BBA is evidence that Fry was turned OFF by Leela's cracking down so hard in this ep (I never said she couldn't occasionally be bitchy - heck, even Amy can be bitchy - just that bitchiness is not her standard mode). So I think it clearly indicates that Fry does differentiate between "tough and capable" and "bitchy," and has very different emotional reactions to each...

And one more thing(briefly, 'cause I have a day job): while he had an affair with Morgan, he didn't seem to LIKE her much. SHE was the one attracted to HIM; Fry happily took what came his way, because why the hell not, but there was no sign that he'd have pursued her if she hadn't played tongue hockey with his tonsils first.

Over and out...

Ahh... And me being the young wippersnapper of PEEL I was...

Meanwhile... Fry admits to Leela that he loves her in 'Parasites Lost'. So, Leela must've thought the worms had something to do with that, otherwise, she would at least have given him a chance. (Perhaps she could have just said she didn't want a backrub from him? Or tell him that no reasonable woman would?)

However, if the worms were the cause of actually causing him to love her, as Leela thought, why would he have said 'I always have'? Could Leela be the one at fault here? And could it help, or, what would happen, if Fry told Leela that he loved her again? Of course, it would have to be done correctly, otherwise Leela will misunderstand, and possibly think she's being used again. She may have reason to believe Fry is capable of tricking her ('Time Keeps on Slippin''), and seems to push all the good moments between each other into the back of her memory.

But, despite all this, I believe that Fry could handle a rejection. A solid rejection. Maybe. If Leela would only give it! She never tells him the real reason she won't go out with him. Why not? All that could happen is that he won't stop (so nothing lost there), he will stop (good), or he'll actually see the problem and work on it and try to improve himself. Granted this may seem far-fetched for Fry, but remember, we're talking about Leela here.

So all she gives is excuses. Leaving her options open, maybe? Why no solid rejection, which Fry just might be able to take? She tries to push him away, but besides being in a unfavorable position (perhaps not really wanting to) and pushing in an ineffective manner, she's not even pushing all the time. Recall 'The Why of Fry' and other such shippy episodes? Heck, she practically pulled him in that episode! And she's one to complain about Fry not giving up on her. It's not like she helps! Sheesh, if she's going to dump him, treat him like a human being and not a yo-yo for God's sake!

And tell me, does anybody think that the sight of parallel married them in Universe 1 did anything to convince Leela that they could be right for each other just the way they were? It certainly would have made me think.

Just pushed back into the back of her mind along with all those other moments when she didn't reject Fry and then subconsiously confuses him by contradicting herself later. (I say subconsiously because I doubt that Fry is aware enough to notice it consiously. What person in love would be?)

Doesn't make sense to me, yet that's what I see.
Now I'm depressed.
---------------------

Granted, this is phrased in the worst possible manner, but it actually seems to somewhat accurately descibe their 'condition'. That should have made you a shipper if you aren't already. And if you aren't, you hate Fry! And Leela I guess! And Bender's banjo!

Well, it’s lost its status as “last,” (see Nerd-o-rama’s link) but I thank you, Sven, for giving me the opportunity to shamelessly plug yet another of my fics

Eh, remember he’d been hardly sleeping for like two weeks, and personally I think anyone who motorcycles without a helmet (they didn’t actually SAY that, but I assume that’s why the spleen was up for grabs, futuristic medicine being advanced and all) falls into the “evolution in action” category and doesn’t deserve a whole lot more sympathy than Fry expressed. (A little more, but not much. )

Really? I thought most Futurama fans were more sensible than to live in a nearly sub-tropical area that gets more rainfall annually than London. You do escape for the three worst months, right Nerdmeister? Don’t tell me you’re gone for the three months that are actually liveable...

Anyway, regarding fanfics...I've said it repeatedly (mostly in Layla's thread), but when I read Futurama fanfiction, I prefer stuff that sticks as close to the show as possible; that means short, episodic, and funny (see JBERGES, Kryten). Shipfics are often long, melodramatic, badly characterized, or all three.
---------------------

Click on that link right up there, HopelessShipper, and be highly amused!

quote:
---------------------
And of course, the ship-oriented episodes are great. The Sting (though that relates more to FriendShip than Romantic RelationShip in my opinion) remains my favorite episode, up there with The Farnsworth Parabox (see? there's the "secondary plot" shippy) and Godfellas (what? I like Bender.)
---------------------

I love Bender, and adore Godfellas…you’re right, it’s a good friend-shippy ep for him and Fry, and a good ep to show that, though Bender talks a good talk about not caring for anyone but himself, he reveals a deeper side every now and then. And it was touching the way Leela supported Fry (and I personally think she missed Bender a bit more than she said she did).

And yeah, you could read "The Sting" as an intense friendship story rather than romantic...it's just as satisfying either way, to me.

quote:
---------------------
However, when ship is worked in subtly (as a secondary plot) or well-written* … it's a damn good read. *this is the one that applies to all of the writers I noticed in this thread. Except Xanfor, I haven't gotten around to reading his stuff yet.
---------------------

It’s worth the read. :) And thank you, I do try!

Ta-ta till later...

I missed Shiny's reply the first time. I wasn't saying anything about bikers or that Fry was sympathy negative. I was saying that Fry messed up a moment that he could have capitalized greatly upon, Fry could have/should have used the moment to tell Leela something honest and from the heart. Instead Fry pulls a Fry and makes it into something that Leela can only appreciate to a certain point.

*sigh* What if...

Eek! My posts of yesterday are a mess! Eeeek! Remind me to check my posts after I post! Phew. Now I feel better. News, anyone? No? Awww... Now I'm gonna look conceited when I bring up my new fic I'm writing.

I know, I'll pass on mentioning it right now. Right now, we have more important things to worry about. Like nominating Shiny for the Poster of the Month. You heard me. Don't just sit here. Vote! (Actually, nom, the voting comes later.)

Let's see now, previous post had what... Shippy framegrab, shippy quote... Oh yes, I remember that. Shippy fanart by FemJesse... Oh my, and a reluctant admittance to Ralph that he out-geeks me. Sheesh...

( ;) )

Ok, let's see, another art by FemJesse them? Ok. This one appears to be based on yesterday's quote. I can't decide whether it's supposed to be happy or not. I mean, Fry seems oblivious to Leela's mood. Or, (and I know nothing about this, so correct me if I'm wrong,) maybe she's just in a mood swing? Knowing Leela, her mood swings are going to be a bit more... Pronounced... Than anyone else's. Anywhy...

Here's a framegrab that appears to be shippy... And shippy is what the mind makes of it, so there. I have no idea what that means, but it sounds right.

And here's another grab I felt like posting. Don't axe me why.

Only I'm allowed to axe myself that. Discuss.

Moving even more on, I faced a difficult dilemma in quotes today. But, like with bears and pineapples, it vanished when stared at long enough. (Actually though, pineapples just roll away, I think...)

Yes. Yes it is.

Now, very important matter here, people! It is now time to Vote for Shiny! She made it with the most number of noms, and now you have to vote in the poll. And the bad news is that right now she's losing to David A. So go! Go, go, go!

In personal news, I have discovered that my latest fic has taken a turn for the shippyest. That's how I write. I just start with a senario and see where it leads me. It does take longer, but it ends up smoother and I feel like I'm actually living the story that way. Also, I've noticed a trend in my writings. I seem to have a fascination with dualities. You know, opposites, parallels. To quote an appropriate Vulcan term, 'Ni Var's. And this next fic relies on that a bit as well. To quote another Vulcan term, 'Fascinating'.

Anyway, it's shippy, and if I'm lucky I'll have it up by the end of next week.

Now, shippy framegrabs galore minus a galore minus one...

I was throwing ideas around inside my head for a fanfic once, and I came across an idea that involved this guy who was a telepath. Meanwhile, Fry gets ready for his wedding, which is to somebody besides Leela. This telepath guy, being able to read minds and all, finally decides to take the whole thing into his own hands and goes to talk to Leela. Leela at the moment is picking out the dress she'll wear at the wedding. The guy recommends 'the white one'. Leela replies no, because she's afraid she'll look like the bride. To which the telepath replies 'Why not, you weren't afraid to look like the widow when you thought it was his funeral'.

I wrote the fic. It was my first fic. I reread it. It was terrible. I deleted it and reused the two good punchlines in 'Parallel Universe Part I'.

Anyway, the point is that Leela looks like a widow, which when considering the fact that she thought Fry was dead, is very very shippy.

The Good: Xanfor's new yarn sounds very entertaining, and shippy, a great combination. Can't wait.

The Bad: It would seem that Shiny has lost POTM, that's a damn crying shame.

The Ugly: Everyone bagging on on-topic, we don't hate off-topic...

Off-topic is a different bunch. They seem to forget that new fans are coming in every day, and that there will be a even more when the DVD's are released and the new eps appear on CC.

For some reason, some of them seem to think that they are the only 'true' fans just because they started watching the show from the first broadcast on FOX. To me, every new fan increases the profitiblity of the new DVD's, just increasing the chance of a few resurrection of the show.

Then there are some of the Off-Topic people who really aren't fans but people who have found a forum to bitch, moan and flame.

Oh, don't worry about it. Most of the 'Off-Topic' people are a little different. I rather doubt anything you did altered the outcome.

I'm schizophrenic enough to be able to co-exist in all the forums. I can be nice like Shiny and Venus, or I can resort to acidic flaming like Lampy.

Shiny will have her day, as I plan to nominate only people from the 'On-topic' areas. Too many fic-writers and artists are getting overlooked while people win in 'Off-Topic' get nominated just to be nominated.

Listen to Ralph. He's right.

That's life.
(That's life...)
And they say to remember.
You're ridin' high in August,
Shot down in September.
But you know ya, know ya gotta stay sober,
'Cause you're gonna be back on top, back on top in October.
I say that's life.
(That's life...)
And I think it's just rock bottom,
People who devote themselves,
To cheating on the POTM.
But we won't let it, let it keep us down,
'Cause this fine old board,
It keeps spinnin' around!

Eh-hem... Right... Now, anyways...

The POTM is not over. Needless to say, Vote for Shiny.

In other news, part thirteen of Dave Vincent's fic 'Background Noise' is now up at TLZ. I haven't had a chance to read it myself, but I've heard it's good. I'll make time to.

In other news, Shiny has been torturing members of on-topic for no apparent reason. Officials have determined that she may be suicidal. 'In that case,' a representative informed our reporter, 'we have no problem with 'taking care of her'.'

But, in the end, they still axed me to do it.

Xanfor: If you thought that list was torture, wait till you hear me SING!

(Hit it, boys... )

I’ve been a a lurker, a writer, a filker, a shipper,
And a hurt-comfort queen,
I’ve written Myst, Blake’s 7, Futurama, and Riptide,
And I know the scene...
Each time I get depressed,
I just pick up my pen
And write some pure angst till I’m blissful againnnnnn -

That’s life
(That’s life... )
And I know allllll about it
Many times, I’ve thought of givin’ up fandom,
But I just can’t live without it;
And if I thought it wasn’t worth
The cost I pay...
I’d just enroll myself....
In business school n’get....
An M---B---A!
Whooooaaaah....
Noooooo......!

Thank you, thank you!

Wow, Shiny, your typing even sounds like Sinatra...

(And for some reason, I just knew you were going to do that. Good show, good show! )

Attention, readers. This post takes a subdued form today in memory of Steve Irwin, who died yesterday morning by a stingray attack. More details are in this thread.

Now, in shipper news, the mandatory update...

Well, at least Leela doesn't want Fry to know the mean things she says about him...

Quote
Fry, why must you analyze everything with your relentless logic?

You know, I'm like Fry. I use a purposely large vocabulary and I analyze everything down to it's component subatomic particles. I can name four times where someone has actually said that quote to me. (And we're talking people who don't know about 'Futurama', heh heh...) But when I'm nervous or distracted, I say funny, stupid, and irrelevant lines in response to normal stimuli. Leela sure distracts Fry, doesn't she? More so than even a regular pretty girl who pretty much (from his point of view) already accepts him. (Michelle)

I think that says a lot.

Oh, right, and discuss.

Thank you! Yeah, it was one of my mom's favorite songs...I heard it a LOT growing up. It's sort of permanently engraved into my memory (that and "Midnight Train to Georgia," ;) )

Fry: Ahahaahaahaa. Please don't me hit too.
Corny, I know. I coulda made Bender say Farnsy's mom was gay with Leela's. Then she'd really have a reason to hit Bender and beat the crap outta him.

Edited for many, many reasons. Sad Steve Irwin died like that. I'd figured a poisonous snake or something would get him. I still can't really grasp he's not there anymore.
Ohh, I can't help but give this a quote.
