Ignar is Mom's son. The one with the pinkish-purple hair. I'd definately have to say he's the stupidest, as well.

Hm... Fry's parents sort of bothered me... It makes sense he would be so screwed up.
I mean his dad makes statements like (as or similar to but probably not accurate), "The Y2K computers got him. We'll face burning roads, exploding rivers, and calculators turned heat-seeking missiles." or "you calling my son Commie?!" His mother's not exactly stupid but a bit negligent...
Oh and Ignar is stupid, but I think that those brains are a close second. "We're an ambitious young squad with everything to prove!" Yet they also can't figure out to hover over a chain link fence...

I think it's highly unlikely that they're unrelated though. I'm pretty sure that's menat to be part of the situational irony ("because Fry is stupid, he becomes the smartest person on Earth for awhile." But since I think the writers just made up the "delta" brainwave*, we'll probably never know.
*That is, I've only ever heard of alpha, beta, and maybe gamma brainwaves. I could be wrong, though.
And a further footnote, yes that is a legitimate example of irony, according to every lit class I've ever been in. There IS a delta wave. Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta. The four basic ones. Interestingly, the delta wave does have little to do with intelligence. Delta is seen only in the deep stages of Sleep. Beta is what you see during heavy concentration. Yet, if we think of these waves as gears of a car, we need them all. Obviously, too little sleep and much concentration will impair the thinking process. So realistically, Fry is a light sleeper because he has no Delta wave, and yet this is the state in which you are most likely to dream. Also, no one's intelligence should have been so drastically impaired. That would be the beta wave. Of course, we have no way of knowing how Fry has compensated for the lack of the delta wave and one of the others may be interfering with the beta wave. Hm... I just remembered the show that introduced Mom to the series, and now I'm not sure who's the stupidiest character... Like Fry was stupid, but for the most part it was after he was drugged. All of Mom's sons thought that they would actually be convincing however with their plot, and Bender for some reason had stolen that green sweater when he could just as easily have tossed stuff into his chest...

i voted for zapp. ive seen numerous occasions when he portrays he stupidity. zapp usually displays either two sides to him. one - his sex crazed side; mainly towards leela and other women. and two - his stupidity and arrogant comments which are usually out of stupidity.
i love the guy but damn. control your hormones and read a book, for crying out loud. OH MY GAAAAD!!!

I say fry, Ignar never really gets a chance to prove his intellegence (he hasnt really been in the show that many times) and I think his behaviour is more due to the fact he lives in a constant state of fear (cause slaps hurt) while fry get to show his stupidity day in and day out.

Who is the stupidest? Igner (Ignar?) is technically not the stupidest. I mean, just think about it. If your mother was an elderly dominatrix, you never even knew your father, and your older brother Walt constantly slapped you and Larry at every remark you said... wouldn't you act the same way he does?
Fry's parents aren't stupid... just ignorant. Or in Fry's father's case, paranoid. Paranoia doesn't exactly follow the same road as stupidity.
As for Zoidberg, Zoidy IS intelligent! On his planet, that is. Everyone on his planet sort of has the same intelligence, or that's what I'm guessing. Didn't they even say that Zoidy was more intelligent than most Decapodians in the commentary for AOI 1? *shrug*
Zapp's not stupid, either. He'd rather be having sex than attending to his captaining duties. *stops talking for fear of becoming the Zapp Lover again*
So... I hate to say this, Fry fans, but Fry is technically the stupidest. His lack of the Delta Brain Wave and that damage he did to his brain in PL made him that way. But never fear... I can tell he is a genius at heart (and he probably could have been!)

My vote goes to Ignar. Fry has his smart moments, and Zapp did manage to get to a high ranks in the fleet, which counts for something. Amy isn't stupid, so is Zoidberg who is just lovabely annoying. I think missing the obvious doesn't necessarily says you're stupid... so... we're left with Ignar.

ignar is totally awesome, but i still think he's the least intelligent. All the other characters have done at least SOMETHING intelligent, but Ignar..... i don't think he's done anything!!!! (i know this post is very late but iv only just joined)
