I went thorugh the CGEF sound clips.  The one of the exam on TSHL - Zoidberg says at the end "GET OUT!". Without Zoidberg's appearance on the screen, I would have sworn president Nixon is on the room too.

Ofcourse both voices are done by Billy West, and thats the cause. But that doesn't sound like Zoidberg at all, and exactly like Nixon. Hmph.

You must know that Fry insulted Zoidbergs mother. That's why Zoidy Poo is really angry. And angry guys often sound different than usual.

Think different: Nixon sounds like angry lobsters..  :)

Billy West once said on the commentary that it's hardest to do voices when they're angry; bear in mind also that it was the second episode, and the voice actors were still settling into their roles. I also like DDie's explanation  :)

yeah, like Hedonism Bot said, it was only ep 2....farnsworth sounds different than he does in later eps, and this was zoidberg's first appearance.

You can tell a big difference in almost every character's voice between the first and fourth seasons. Hermes changed, Bender became even louder and more obnoxious (sp?), and so did Farnsworth. The only one that hasn't changed much, I think, is Amy's.

Yeah, it was early in the series, and Billy West voices both characters, and Zoidberg's voice hadn't been defined yet.

Oddly, during Zoidberg's voice over at the end of "Love & Rocket", I could swear he was drifting into Nixon here and there.  Can anyone back up on this, or am I just nuts?

True...in his first appearence (Zoidberg), he had teeth!!! Did he steal those dentures...or did he eat them after the second episode??? Hmmm...

I just watched TSHL again recently and youre right Idan, he does sound similar to Nixon. but since it was Zoidy's first appearance in the series Billy was still probably working on the voice.

I just listened to both of those episode quotes myself, and I actually have to disagree. I was listening for Nixon's distinct voice, and I couldn't hear any resemblance to him at all. It was definitely a Zoidberg voice.

Nixon's head sounds very different, especially played next to each other.

And even if the voices weren't down pat yet, (I noticed subtle changes also, most noticably in the Professor) in my opinion it sounds enough like Zoidberg to believe it is him without visuals. I don't hear the Nixon traces. He has a distinct voice that just didn't come up.

Bear in mind that both Nixon and Zoidberg are played by Billy West. It's understandable that similarities are going to show up.

I agree with totalnerduk.

Also, since zoidberg has such a strange voice, i imagine that it would be hard to do his voice.
If he has to yell with a hard voice, u might expect that there could be a slipp up.

What everybody else has said really, there is a small similarity but it was the second episode.

Yeah, I mean, just like that one time where Fry sounded like a combination of Fry and Stimpy.

And I still maintain that Zapp shouts in Fry's voice in 'When Aliens Attack'. None of this 'it was more like Stimpy with a cold' malarkey, it was definitely Fry!

Anyway, this further demonstrates one point about voice acting - it is far harder to maintain a voice while singing or shouting.

In The Devil's hands, after Fry sings "you evil metal dork," he cries, and sounds exactley like Stimpy. =)

You know, picking on/flaming other PEEL'ers is not going to make you any more popular around here. Maybe you should check up on your own grammar and punctuation before you criticize other people's posts.

Hmm, the answer is already given I think, Zoidberg was angry when he said "Get out", and thus his voice will sound different.

Nixon was in the first episode.  Zoidberg wasn't.

I had also forgotten this when talking about Nixon in another thread, though.  I guess it's an easy mistake to make, since he doesn't show up a main character until "A Head in the Polls."
