Question: In the Why of Fry when Fry is flying to the Brain sphere, he is told by the Nibblonians to avoid thinking. But in "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid" Fry's thinking made the brains less powerful and hurt them. Why would it help one time and be dicouraged the next?

Because it was only one Brain that time, if he thought too heavily at the infosphere, he would be detected and overpowered. DUH!

Plus its just funny.

They want to wipe out thought because it hurts them! Therefore if they get hurt by thought, then they can obviously detect thought! Therefore, since they don't seem to have any eyes, ears or noses, then not thinking would be a good way to get into the infosphere unsuspected. However they seem to be able to hear Fry unless his thoughts about speaking were enough to have him detected but not hurt the brains!

The Big Brain clearly heard fry in TDTESS. Setting up the amazing "Wishful thinking - We have long since evolved beyond the NEED for asses!" in TDTESS. Quite possibly the best joke in the whole episode which is saying something  :D

Different situations - in Stupid, Fry was making a direct asault, with guns blazing, as it were.  Of course we also notice that only when Fry intensely thinks does he have an effect on TBB.

In Fry, he is trying to secretly infiltrate the Infosphere.  He doesn't want to draw any attention to himself, so as long as he avoids intense thought, he should be able to slip through unnoticed.

ok a couple of things after watching TWOF again today, and listening to the commentary....

1. When Nibbler blanks Fry's memory at the end, shortly after Fry tells Leela that he is the most importand person in the universe....
BUT how does he know that, if his memory was just blanked....?

2. Was it just blanked so he wouldn't remember what happened in the ep, or from way back to TDTESS's events....?

I guess it's just from the ep, otherwise he wouldn't have a clue right....right....??!  :hmpf:

Also I'm verily pissed that this show was cancelled much more after hearing David X say that they could have done so much more with the Fry storyline....

oh yeah that was the other thing, the eye stalk in the bin, it can't have been Nibbler (as mentioned it was in the comentary) cos Nibbler was under the desk by that point....unless he quickly jumped frm the bin to under the desk....*goes cross-eyed*

Leela: "You know what Fry. I don't care if you're not the most important person in the universe. It really makes me happy to see you right now."
Fry: "Then I am the most important person in the universe."

Fry feels he's the most important person in the Universe because he made Leela happy, not because he remember anything about the Brain Spawn.

Guy love girl, girl tell guy he makes her happy, guy is overjoyous and feeling important.

I'm pretty sure everything regarding the Nibblonians and the Brain Spawn was blanked, including stuff from TDTESS.

Why did Nibbler bother to blank Fry's memory anyway?  At the end of "TDTESS" no one believed him about what had happened.  I doubt that anyone would have believed what happened in "TWOF" either.

The difference is that Nibbler's cover was blown which would mean:
a)Fry would be on guard against future manipulations.
b)Fry might find a way to draw Nibbler into exposing himself.

Thanks Teral, I get it now....I knew I'd missed something....

I'm not sure what would have been better, blanking Fry's memory or not....

On one hand, Fry is better off not knowing why he was frozen, he can go on thinking it was accidental and enjoy his ife in the future....

On the other hand, if he knows about the Nibblonians and the Brain spawn etc he'd be on alert for future attacks....if there were going to be any, which we will never know....(although Nibbler hinted there would be....)

Actually, I think that Fry was better off knowing.  Fry may be happy in the future, but there are times (such as in "Luck of the Fryrish" and "Jurassic Bark" ) when he misses what he left behind in the past.  In "The Why of Fry" he learns why he was frozen, and is given the choice of changing what happened and staying in the past, or allowing himself to be frozen.  Of his own free will, Fry chose to be frozen.  He chose the future.  He chose Leela.  After that, Fry might still miss things from his past, but he would know that he had chosen to give up that past to save the future.  To save Leela.  He had made peace with his loss.

...and then Nibbler blanked his memory.  Bastard.

He would be outnumbered if any of the brains detected him, as I am sure others have said.

Yeah, it would probably be better for Fry to know the truth, but Nibbler is on a mission (from God  :D) to save the Universe, and can't afford to jeopardise it. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." ... "Or the one."

Weakening the brains by thinking would be like trying to sneak into a military base by punching every soldier you see.
