In "Hell is Other Robots", they never explained what happened to Nibbler. Fry and Leela just forgot about him. In the DVD commentary for the episode, they said that it would be revealed in the 3rd season, but I've seen all season 3 episodes and they never explained how Nibbler escaped from Robot Hell. So how DID Nibbler escape?

What they mean in the commentary is that in season 3 we find out that Nibbler is intelligent and therefore able to find his way home by himself.  And he doesn't really have to escape Robot Hell because he never actually goes down there.

lol, plothole, pure and simple. He like, disappeared when the trap door opened up. When they were going down the slide he was no longer there

He didn't fall down the slide, it only caught Leela and Fry.
