Wouldn't a nickel in his nose only affect one nostril? To me it looks like the bump is at the begining of the bridge of the nose.

I've noticed that Randy also has a ridge in his nose.

Maybe he too put a nickel in his nose...

Fry simply has a hawk nose.  The cartilidge that makes up the nose isn't fully formed at birth.  Sometimes the cartilidge forms at different rates over the growing bone causing the outward parts to project, hawk nose will be formed.
Rich girls in America get them removed ritualistically.  Some keep their noses as a signifier of prestige or background.

I'll go with that theory.

Now I want to know how Fry, Leela, Amy, etc. can breath without visable nostrals, and how Fry live when his nose was removed.

And how can they pick up change off of a flat surface when they clearly don't have fingernails?  I demand that all cartoons be drawn photo-realistically from now on.

Even with his nose removed, he would probably still have two holes where his nostrils were.  Alternatively, he could just breathe through his mouth.

I'm pretty sure that the tissue that seperates the two nostrils dissapears about halfway up the nose. If it's that far up, it could be in the center.
