The word star trek

In the episode 'Wher no fan has gone before' we are lead to believe you are not allowed to say star trek but in season 2 (can't remember exact episode) Fry ask about DOOP and hermes say's it's like the federation from your star trek films

Whats going on

i pretty sure Groening came up with the idea of "where no fan has gone b4" well after "Branigan Begin Again". He prob didnt realize he made a comment about StarTrek in a earlier episode.

Previous mentions of Star Trek and half-arsed ways of explaining them away:

SP3K: Fry says the automatic door is "Just like on Star Trek", however since he was unfrozen a few minutes earlier they went a bit lenient and only gave him a quick bash over the head.

BBA: "Or like the Federation from your Star Trek show." The law only prevents the public usage of the words Star Trek, Hermes got away with it because he was in the PE building.

IDaR: Old Trek vs. New Trek.com is an illegal website.

TL: Star Trek: The Pepsi Generation is nominated for the Best Soft Drink Product Placement Oscar, they get away with this because... umm... wait, I like a challenge... it was actually a different show called Start Wreck, the name resembles but is legally distinct from the forbidden words and so nobody has to be thrown into a volcano.
