Freedom Day

Just something I noticed the other day...

In "A Taste Of Freedom", Fry basically continually states (or at least he does for the first act) that he doesn't know anything about Freedom Day. However, I'm assuming that Freedom Day would be an annual event, and by that point (Season 4), Fry would have seen at least 3 Freedom Days...

Not particularly interesting, just a thought.

He could have been on a delivery...?

Also, maybe it takes place on a cycle, like the Olympics, or on a leap year (I don't know whether 3003/4 is a leap or not) or something like that.

Maybe he completely forgot about the last few freedom days. Like go on another drug trip.... just a theory.

Maybe Fry just wasn't paying attention.

Lots of people around here needed to be told what Kwanzaa is, and they don't even have the excuse of being from an earlier millennium.

3004 is a leap year, but I think that episode was set in 3003.

Nope.(Production) Season 4 was set in 3004, as seen in "Bend Her" at the 3004 Earth Olympiad.

i actually thought to post this same question myself, tho i wrote it off as i would probably recieve answers of this nature. ones that could possibly be technically correct, the best kind of correct.

But "A Taste of Freedom" came before "Bend Her", so it's not neccessarily set in 3004.

Here's how I see the timeline:

2999: Space Pilot 3K
3000: "The Series Has Landed" - "Xmas Story"
3001: WMIBACIL - "A Tale of Two Santas"
3002: "Luck of the Fryrish" - some point before "Love & Rocket"

L&R is Valentine's 3003, "Bend Her" is mid-3004, "A Taste of Freedom" could be anytime between the two episodes.

"Obsoletely Fabulous", however, is one episode after "Bend Her", and features Roboticon 3003. Hmm...

eh....remember, the episodes weren't necessarily written in order. Plus, this IS the future..we don't know what's when. X-mas is never designated to be Dec. 25.

Simple:
Freedom Day occures 1 every 5 years.

Bend Her was during a hypno curse by Hypno toad that made everyone think it was 3004.
This started in BSNBOT which was before BEND HER in production order.

 Maybe something to do with the Nibbolians happened on the Last couple of Freedom days and they erased Fry's memory like in 'the Why of Fry'.

Well, if you calculate it - the Olympics would HAVE to appear in 3004. Maybe it's a Futuristic tradition to hold the Olympics a year before they should be, but still name them the year after?

Ummm... getting back on subject, I doubt that Fry wasn't paying attention on other freedom days, considering the nude hot tubbing & everything. However, he IS very forgetful, so it's probably just "some brain thing" with Fry.

maybe they have some events the year before, as what with all the aliens and shit maybe they can't fit everything in one summer. For example now we have the winter events in winter (duh  ) and that is often the year before.

Perhaps the Earth Olympics occur a year before the actual Olympics, and the winning teams compete for Earth in the intergalactic Olympics. They call it 2004 because they're actually preparing for next year.

By our model they would happen in 3004, but we have already changed the Winter Olympics to appear out of synch with the traditional Olympiad, ie. two years ahead of the Summer Olympics. Making another adjustment sometime during the next 1000 years isn't out of the question. Maybe the war of 2012 (or the alien invasions) screwed up the order.

Not specifically, perhaps, but it must be close, since Fry knows when it's coming up, and the Professor says something on X-mas Eve about there not being any garbage pick-up until January 2 (or something like that).

You mean 3004, right?  I think that's likely, considering that Hermes is on the Earth team in the "A Flight to Remember" flashback, and the Jamaican team in "Bend Her."

Yep, quite correct.. Prior to the olympics, the announcer says 'the 3004 Earth Olympiad'.. thus Earth Olympics.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I was pretty much basing it off those two episodes.
