As far as i can figure, Bender has always had emotions. His problem was empathy. If it didn't effect him personaly he didn't care.

The empathy chip just forced him to feel Leela's emotion.

Bender only seems to care about himself or things like himself without the chip. The chip kind of, I dunno, translates Leela's emotions to him?

The empathy chip my not have effected Bender at all, and it could have all just been Nibbler tricking him, what with his special powers and all...

Bender has always had emotions.  The chip forced him to feel empathy for Leela.  That's not to say that he COULDN'T feel empathy before; he just didn't choose to.  With the chip installed, there is no choice.  It really doesn't seem that complicated to me, but oh well.

Did you see them though? Did you see them? Leela's parents were on the screen. And I don't know how many noticed it, but they also appeared on Leela's Homeworld.

Bender has emotions, expect for empathy.  That's why the chip was implanted in him.  Sometimes he cries when he can't get what he wants or screws himself up like when he sold his body and Nixon took it.

bender only cares about himself (and sometimes fry), so if something gets in the way of people paying attention to how glorious he is, he's going to get jealous.
