Bumping old threads is bad!
Moving along, it's the last frame of the episode. It's not something that you'd notice unless you really took the time to look for it. And no, it's not the 20th centure Fox thing.

I slowed it down to 1/16, and I didnt see it. I watched from the end credits till it brought you back to the menu.

Sorry about that, I'm just a odd little girl with no other life but to bump old threads. But, anyway, I still didn't see it. Maybe my TV hates me.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I also noticed the POP! thing and was wondering about it myself.  Its good to know that other people have noticed it!
I was just thinking of the POP screen now because I saw a thread in PE Stockroom about an unrelated problem with the season 4 box set. I almost asked about this in that thread, luckily I thought to search POP and DVD before posting.
So anyway, the POP thingy - I seems like that to see the POP screen you have to sit through the whole episode from start to finish, because whenever I notice POP at the end of the credits I go to chapter selection and watch the credits again and it doesn't appear this time.

They probably left it in on perpose to see if we would notice it and then spend several dozen hours racking our brains trying to figure out what, if anything, it means. And yes I did notice it, and yes I did go back, pause and then freeze frame forward to check that I was seeing things again, though I didn't spend several dozen hours trying figure out what it means ... just 3.

And now to end it:

It's really one single of the the very last frames.

Don't ask why it's so big... captured it a long time ago

edit: refreshed the link, imageshack deleted the pic

Got a problem Sal?

If you'd read this thread you'd notice that many people say it is a subliminal message like some company tried to fit into movies to advertice their products. As far as know there has even been a case where a single frame of porn was cut into comedy movie to check the audience's reaction.

We also know that Futurama, made by Matt Groening, DXC and a crew of ph.D. owners is stuffed with technical jokes. Also do we know from some commentaries that they like(d) to read the online communites to get reactions to their work. I'd say this "pop" is just another gimmick they added in to trigger a discussion among us.. and it worked.  ;)

Beside that, you also saw that this thread was bumped many times, mostly asking for evidence of this frame. My "And now to end it" and posting the picture gave evidence that it existed.

... try to get into the context before you start criticising people  ;)

Sorry for bumping the thread, everyone. It's just that a good amount of time has gone by since the last posting about this, and I thought maybe some new evidence or ideas may have surfaced regarding it. I really find this sort of thing intriguing.
I myself just found out when reading the plot synopsis and episode trivia at Wikipedia.

Any new info? (If not, please don't get on to me for bumping the thread. Just ignore me)

I thinkl it was just some sort of animation test to see if the animation could be shown at the end of the episode, but not entirely sure... plus its no problem so who minds....

Can you see this Pop sign on the episodes on TV, from what I remember you can't so this supports my test theory

I have it recorded, but it's in a box. I'll check later.
I don't know if it could be intentional, because if they were going to make a joke of it, they would have made a joke about it such as this:

Fry: Stupid adverts in dreams! I was having a really good one, too!
Bender: With Leela?
Fry: Why can't they just do the illegal thing and subliminal influence my thought processes when I'm watching TV?
Leela: They do.
Fry: Oh.
(And then, for 1/30 of a second, the time of just one frame, the splash screen 'Drink Slurm' appears, noticable later only by us nerds who look for this sort of thing)

Good for you! I became a Starship Captain yesterday, I think.

On-topic: I checked in the TV version, it's not there. I believe now that it's probably some sort of DVD testing artifact. But if so, why 'POP'? Why not 'Test' or one of those multicolored test screens? Perhaps they knew something would be left over on the DVD when they tested, and knowing what geeks we are, they selected something with absolutely no point at all (like Monty Python) and put it in. And right now they're all sitting back with barrels of popcorn, watching us being all confused, and laughing.
Well, there might be some truth in that...

I'm sidestepping here, and digging up old stuff, but this irked me to no end.

1: Futurama in a movie theater?
2: You can't call your post an opinion (imho), but an assumption or possibly even a theory.

There are some admitted subliminal images in the original release of The Exorcist. They were inserted to provoke more fear in viewers - some belieive these images are the reason the film still manages to scare people to this day. A quick Google search will tell you more.

Just thought I'd put that out there...
