Yeah but fry's building wasn't a monument was it?  I think they were just trying to blow up important things first, and fry isn't too important.

Or else he was under someone's protection... the Nibblonians, maybe?

Or else...

Wait for it....

A wizard did it!

Yes, a wizard put a magical white seal on the building protecting it from all damaging attacks except for attacks from the astral plane, and by demons. That's what happened.
Um....okay.....kinda got that from an anime show. Okay....me go now...

Well, gee, wouldn't it kinda have killed the series to have had Fry die when the building he was in exploded?

Its the same thing as in AOI. If the building would have been destroyed, the space-time-continuum would collapse and the whole universe destroyed.

Bad grammar but im not familiar with this kind of thinking and writing and speaking and....

I'm damned sure where we're not: The Universe!

I think that they didn't destroy the building because they were lazy and didn't feel like drawing another big explosion.

Either that or they realized it would kinda suck to kill your main character off 5 minutes into the pilot episode.

I'm pretty sure it was the Nibblonians' doing.  I mean, it was Nibbler who pushed him into the tube, wasn't it?  Just a thought.  :)

Wouldn't the banks have been destroyed too? But when Fry went to withdraw money from his account, it was still intact.

Obviously it isn't meant to be taken seriously.

Yeah, and the old New York went underground, but the building where fry was frozen keeps on at the same ground level... definively, A WIZARD DID IT!!

Not everything was getting destroyed.
You could only see the top of some bulidings and you couldnt see the whole town.

And why they didnt blow up Fry?
He was just lucky. He's always lucky, he's nearly killed in every episode but survive at the end

How about the lifelong cartoon "a wizard did it" equivalent?

Because it was funny!

All we now is that NY got blown up, perhaps thats all the aliens managed to destroy. Or the bank could have gone inter-planetary.

On another note why didn't the inhabitants of that middle-age NY that developed between the two alienattacks investigate the building that so defiantly survived the attack.  Maybe a funny scene in which they worshipped Fry's frozen body as some sort of god.  :)

And another thing. You never actually see them build above the city above the first one. They seem to bulid it at the exact same hight, but when Fry comes out of the building where he got frozen, it looks like it got the same hight.. so how did they do it??

We can't tell exactly where Fry is, but we can narrow it down a bit.  The delivery address tells us that it's at 405 W. *something* street, and from the skyline we can see that we're probably below the 50s, which means it's somewhere near 9th Avenue.  There's not much there that invading aliens would have need to destroy, except perhaps the freeway.

The part of the city that's underground is a bit to the east, as you can tell from the ruins of the Chrysler Building.

I don't know of any Big Apple Bank, but there is an Apple Bank.  Maybe it got bigger.  Note that Chase Manhattan also survived and denied Zoidberg a loan application (though that was in AOI).

If you look really closely at the pilot episode, there's a shadow of a Nibblonian right next to the chair when Fry falls in.  In the AOI reenactment, where Fry fails to fall in, there's no shadow.

Well, since Cohen said a certain ep might be the season 5 opener, it means that I can't post a WHOLE bunch of pics that I was hoping to post this season on this site after the eps aired. Now they've gone & pissed me off.
