Hey guys.  Sounds kind of weird, but, has anyone else noticed the distinct lack of public transport hover buses used in futurama?  Apart from Mother's day, can anyone think of an episode where buses appear?  :D

Well, um, they're referred to in "Leela's Homeworld" and "The Devil's Hands...", so I guess they'd have to be.

They mentioned a bus station in "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" and "Kif gets Knocked Up a Notch," Bender gets on a bus in "Leela's Homeworld," the mugger in "Less than Hero" says he needs money for the bus, and the Robot Devil rides a bus to Planet Express in "Devil's Hands."

I would think that the transport tubes would have most of them phazed out as a form of public transportation.

Don't forget the green bus that we see fly by Fry when he's first walking down the streets of NNY in SP3K.
And the Hollywood tour bus in "That's Lobstertainment!"

The first thing I thought of was in Leela's Homeworld when Bender says 'I'm gettin' on the bus' when Leela pulls the grid back over the sewer.

But I never thought of other refrences, I'm surprised by how many refrences there actually are  :)

The world is obviously etremely populated in the year 3000, so I think you would need several kinds of transportation. Besides, the tubes are more for major cities than anything else. Subways seem to have dissapeared, though, aside from Old New York.

Sure, but that was in the What-If machine's simulation of the year 2000. That doesn't count as we know there were buses back then.

We can't forget that there were buses passing Fry when he heads to the location of the freezing tube.  Hey, it's old New York.

Why take the bus when you can take a transport tube?

Also, my bus driver asked me to ask everyone.  So blame him.

forgetting about buses and deliberately leaving them out due to their lack of great necessity are two different things...

Also, in "The Honking" near the end when Bender car and the Satan car both jump at each other off ramps, they fly over tons of buses.

One of Sal's many, many, many, many, many jobs was as a busdriver (the 10.15 to Nutley) in PYHOMS.

Even if there are transport tubes, that doesn't mean busses will go away. Right now we have other means of public transport, like subways, trolleys, monorails and urban trains, but busses are still out there. And besides, in bending in the wind, they still have highways and tunnels, even though most vehicles can fly, that suggests that in the ironic universe of futurama things rarely become obsolete because NOBODY thinks logically. Take the DOOP rifles for instance, what would you pick, a DOOP laser rifle that needs to be winded like a damn jack in the box or an M16A2, FN-FAL or G3A3? even an AK47 is more effective than those pieces of crap and it's already more than 50 years old in design. Just because things get old doesn't mean they get discarded or that their logic becomes obsolete.

Zkebu, instead of double-posting, it's preferred that you edit your new post onto your old one. Doing that of course, with the "edit" button. I'm glad to see you've found it, though!  ;)

It`s funny because i tought that.. in "Bender shouldn`t be allowed on TV"
at the end the PC has a S.XX gun and farnsworth a ray-gun- soy they still used guns.. (and robo.mafia used machine guns).

there is plenty of Buses in Futurama, in the pilot and many others
