Has anyone else noticed that the opening caption for 1ACV09, Hell is Other Robots is missing on the Season 1 DVD set?

Originally it was 'Condemned By The Space Pope'

Mine doesn't.

It was removed because it was too offensive.

Region 2 doesn't have it (though it's listed inside the box as the Opening Caption). Region 1 does. It's not an error.

Why? BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) probably had a problem with it.

Region 2 has "Condemned By The Space Pope" and "As Seen On TV" from 1ACV03 removed. Neither of these appeared in their first and subsequent airings on C4 either.

I am deeply shocked and appaled that the Futurama staff would even think of using a caption as offensive as "As Seen On TV".

I never noticed that 1ACV03 was missing. What the hell can they find wrong with 'As Seen On TV'

Seen suggests the ocean and all kinds of creatures that live in the ocean, like sperm whales for example. TV reminds everyone of the filth that can be seen on channel 5 at night. On reminds everyone of being at the top. As is one letter short of ass. What isn't wrong with such an offensive caption?

They don't like it because it's a lie. Most people watch Futurama on their PC.  ;)

Now, what's kind of strange is that I do have "As Seen On TV", but not "Condemned by the Space Pope."  I'm in Region 2. Well, that's kind of odd!

I don't think it was removed for being too offensive... just an error.  These are the only two episodes, IIRC, without a 'cold opening' on the disc, and for some bizarre reason, both of them have had the captions removed...

It IS illegal to download Futurama.  Taping TV broadcasts IS legally different, for the reason that the makers of Futurama have received monetary payment for the broadcast from the TV channel, and because most people tape something just so they can watch it once at a more convenient time, rather than distribute them in a huge piracy ring a la kazaa.

Anyway..
I just thought of a possible reason for the removal of 'As Seen on TV'... it's LAME, but I've seen stranger...
Perhaps it was thought that the 'As Seen on TV' joke didn't work when the episode is on DVD ie not actually being broadcast on TV... it's silly, but you never know.  If it's not an error, than the pope one is more likely than not censorship.

Wouldn't that mean that The Illegal DVD one shouldn't have been seen on TV or something?

Technically, it's illegal to tape a show and watch it more than once. It's illegal to watch Futurama on your PC if you don't own the copyright, or the DVDs.

Or if you live here in Sweden you don't have to care because neither is illegal. Huzzah!

edit:
On second though, watching it a second time on tape might be, not quite sure. But downloading and watching "illegal" DVD-rips and such? Completely legal. Uploading however...

If ShineFusion has it, that means the Region 4 one must have it. If so, and if the region 2 one doesn't have it, then in your face people with credit cards.
