In "A Big Piece of Garbage", Wernstrom said, "Au Revoir." French is a dead language!

Well, Leela says "fiance, (referring to Fry in AFtR)" which is a French word, too. Maybe she's THAT smart too.

It could just be that they use French words without knowing their origin. Much like how we use Latin, but Latin's a "dead language."

Also there are some French words embedded in the American English Language, as well as Spanish, Latin, German, .... you all get the picture.

Well, so is Latin, but some (NERDS!) use it still and it is still taught at schools.

Sillious Sodus

Anyway, I was wondering though, if French is mostly dead, how come certain characters have a French accent? Like that Kazuuzuu or what ever. Maybe just to add to his mysteriosness?

Maybe the French don't speak French anymore but they still have the accents. And it's Pazuzu.
"PAZUZU!"

I could never make out what Farnsie called him other than the "Zuzu" bit...  :hmpf:

I think you can't have a French accent without a French language, since the formations and rules of the French language cause the accent.

Zoidberg: J'accuse!

Bender: J'sui Napolean!

Yes, I know I horribly mangled the French language.  It's no more than they deserve.

Le Palm d'Orbit. Sounds French to me.

French is the latin of the Future. Once a great empire, the mightiest warmachine of it's time, it's language spoken through most of the known world, later reduced to a cultural giant, but a political ordinary power, finally to be forgotten by time.

I like your thinking Teral.  You remind me of a young me.  Not much younger, mind you.  Perhaps even a little older.

One doesn't have to speak French to understand the "idiots" bit. I suspect, entoure means "surrounded"? So, you mean, you are surrounded by idiots?

If you're referring to Dark Helmets line on Spaceball 1, then probably not His line was "I'm surrounded by assholes!"

Another thing is the waiter in "Hell Is Other robots" have a very notable French accent. So although the language might be gone, the French still have their silly accent after all those years without a independent language?

Compare that to Picards extremely British accent, even though French still exist in the 23rd century.

"His line were "I'm surrounded by assholes!""

Good point, but you might want to write yourself a little javascript program that switches your "were"'s and your "was"'s for you because you always have them backwards.  :p

No harm done Kristi, I can take a friendly jab. It's not like I don't distribute them myself.   ;) Thanks for the support though.

Advice taken, line edited.

Although I have a killer excuse for that mistake, plus I suck at everything programming-related, be it HTML, Java ot what-have-you.

LOL..I don't know, maybe this is a little odd, but everytime I read Kristi's posts, I imagine them being read aloud by Nibbler in that deep voice of his, and it cracks me up.

But yes, it was just an innocent fun-poking, no offense intended.   :)

From "War is The H-Word":

Fry: "That dog wont hunt, monsigneur!"

Since Fry is from the 20th century, where french is still a relative lively language, he has a legitimate excuse for knowing French. Thenagain, as an American (overgrown) teenager, he shouldn't know anything beyond American.  :p
