I think a bit of prodding at the 4th wall can be a good thing every now and then. Futurama seems to be very "Carol Burnettish" in the way its done. (Burnett was constantly mugging  and staring at the camera, but never blatantly breaking the wall) It's not a common Futurama occurrence, but it can provide some good entertainment when it happens.

My personal favorite is in ITWGY when Bender says "No, Fry's crazy in this one."

That was one of my favorites too.
They broke the fourth wall so many times in the movies.

Someone else who watched the Carol Burnett Show? On my PEELs? :D

Oh my, yes.  Many times.  I do recall a great deal of mugging, but no direct attacks against the wall come to mind.

I'm surprised no-one mentioned the entire "Futurella" segment as an instance of breaking the fourth wall. Or the nerds dressed up as Brainspawn at Comic-Con in Lrreconcilable Ndndifferences.

I wouldn't consider the brain spawn cosplay as breaking the fourth wall.  I would assume that the brain spawn managed to get a cult following in the Futurama universe.  I can gurantee that it would if it happened in our world.

Many things in this thread that are claimed to be breaking the fourth wall are not truly breaking the fourth wall. Some of them are leaning on it, and some of them are merely self-referential humor.

I like in the beginning or Rebirth with the conversation,

Professor: "It was one of the main shipping channels!"

Zoidberg: *laughs* "How humorous!"

Professor: "Yes, it's sort of a Comedy Central channel. And we're on it now!"

In fact, a C'thulhu-esque Brainspawn cult in the Futurama universe would bear some humorous potential :)

*gasp* "Nothing!"

That's breaking the 4th wall/looking in the "camera", right?
It's kind of odd joke anyway.

Correct! The aside glance is indeed a form of fourth wall breakage.
