I just noticed that all three episodes of broadcast season 8 which have pure text in the opening message (in other words excluding Neutopia) have had yellow text instead of white which used to be the standard throughout the rest of the series. Looking through all captions, I could find a number that had yellow to accompany a special, funky font style, but none with the yellow colour and the traditional style.

Is this a giant breakthrough in Futurama science that I have stumbled across? Or does no-one really care?

The first three episodes of the first season had yellow captions and the default font... it's not brand new.

I can't say I really feel passionate about this. They both look fine.

Since the messages are non-canon, continuity doesn't really deal with it.

But then again Futurama  has never been about continuity.

Someone is annoyed at something and decided to take it out here.

Now I am actually curious as to why they switched over to yellow. I bet it wasn't even a conscious decision, it just happened.

I guess some new guy was responsible for nothing but animating the messages, already having the wording in front of him, knowing he couldn't change a thing... he was extremely depressed of how no-one noticed his work... so he thought "hey! I'll change the colour to yellow!"

He's dead now. White is back next week.

I would pretty much die laughing if next week's caption was "This text is back to white now, OKAY?"

Actually, he was promoted to "Executive Message Animator."

So next week is a Futurama/Simpsons crossover - Futurama, but everyone's yellow?

This yellow font just isn't matching up to the white font I loved in the old run of Futurama. If I wanted yellow fonts, I would watch some other crappy TV show. I fell in love with Futurama because of the white font! Futurama has been ruined! Ruined forever!

I know the lowest common denominator loves yellow, but Futurama has always been above that. White was the perfect color for the opening text. I guess they don't care abut quality anymore, just ratings.

If your "wait, what?" is of confusion regarding where the screenshot's from, it's from when Fry appeared in a Simpsons couch gag. The entire family is put into the couch with tubes, but Fry appears instead of Bart.

Interesting.  That Fry looks a little off, but if I'd seen it, I'm sure I'd have laughed.

Well, he's simpsonized, and yellow.

The PE ship was in the opening last season too (to celebrate Futurama's return). :)

There was even a sound clip of a re-worked version of the Futurama theme playing in the background for a few seconds. :)

I saw it the day it premiered and was both surprised and happy. :D

A re-worked version of the theme that's always playing in the beginning of episodes. Think the sound clip has been used in previous Futurama episodes. Sounds familiar. It's played in the middle of episodes I believe.

Yeah, it's just a little jingle of the main theme. ;) Also, the light coming from the PE Ship engines is orange, not blue. :nono:
