hmmm...
In Rebirth, just after they exit the wormhole, in all the confusion, Fry yells, "We've lost power to the forward gameboy! Mario not responding!", and he is playing a video game. However, he is shown holding a NES controller instead of a gameboy. A NES is a completley different console than any type of gameboy...  :nono:

No mainstream animated nor any kind of visual medium on TV has ever got video games correct.

Its just the way it is.

Or, in the future every game has been ported to every platform.

 Including the nonexistant ones.

South Park tends to be pretty good with video games.

Also Spaced but that's not animated.

Microsoft Move sounds like something Gates would perform behind closed doors... :shifty:

...or gleefully in public. That is, unless you're referring to the adult version of Microsoft Move (in which case I'm hoping "gleefully in public" still applies /billionaire voyeurism) har har har.

In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

South Park tends to be pretty good with video games.

Yeah you could hear Bulletstorm in 'Crack Baby Athletic Association' and they talked about and played L.A. Noire in 'You're Getting Old'.

Not to mention any episode in which Cartman wants a specific video game and/or game console.

South Park tends to be pretty good with video games.

That just may be, but it doesn't change the fact that video games and consoles are usually portrayed accurately in the show.

I wasn't saying anything against that. Just saying that I hate South Park. ;)

I just suspect that some animator got the script that he was to put in a Game Boy, and he had never played it but knew it was some video game, so he just put a console of some sort in. No-one noticed, and it passed.

As Freako said, animation (and TV in general) has never gotten such devices correctly. It doesn't annoy me particularly.

*sigh*

A gameboy doesn't have a controller; the controls are on the gameboy itself.  However, if you had an emulator running gameboy games, what sort of controller would you use?  An NES controller has everything you need: D-pad, A, B, select, start.

I think the bigger question is...

Why the hell did Fry play video games when travelling through a worm hole into what could be a distant universe? He's such a bore.

Maybe Fry called the NES a Gameboy by mistake because he's an idiot or he's not as educated on the matter of video games as he thinks?

Maybe in the future, a new console comes out with an NES replica controller (extremely likely to happen actually given some of the NES-themed peripherals for the Wii and the Gamecube).

Maybe Farnsworth wired up an NES controller to a Gameboy. He's a professor. He can directly wire anything into anything.

Perhaps Fry was playing on an emulator and using an NES controller for input.
