How come Lars AKA Fry suddenly became smart and romantic, the complete opposite of Fry (at most times), when the explosion only affected his Hair and Voice? Unless he recieved brain damage too, but that wasn't explained. :nono:

I think it was because he discovered after being for 12 years at the North Pole that he loves Leela and he has to follow his love... That changed his mind.

He wasn't any smarter or more romantic than Fry. In fact, he was identical to Fry in almost every way except for maturity. It was only his different voice and appearance that kept Leela from noticing; other than that he and Fry were the same person.

I think it was just the fact that he was older and more mature than our original Fry that made him seem "smarter".

Life does that to people. And so does life experiances. He simply grew up a little.

He did make coy jokes like Fry does, it just seemed sexier coming from a guy with a deeper voice. I agree with everyone, the maturity did wonders for him. :)

Yes, Lars is the same person. And he is definitely romantic, like in ITWGY and PL etc. He was just younger and more focused on being stupid than REALLY trying to get Leela's heart. Also, I think after enduring those 12 years and being so jealous of Lars and how romantic he was, when he found out he actually was Lars I believe he knew exactly what he had to do, as he set his own example. *yes, the time loop, who came first, the chicken or the egg?* Ask Tnuk..........

Fry was always smart.  Fry was always romantic.  What others have said is rather true as well.  Lacking the Delta Brain Wave, Fry may actually be one of the most uniquely intelligent individuals in the Universe.

*yes, the time loop, who came first, the chicken or the egg?* Ask Tnuk..........

Lars (2012 version of Fry) learned it from watching his future self, and grew up to do it himself. It's that simple, and you don't need a Tnuk to explain it.

And concerning the chicken and the egg, the egg came first. The egg was laid by a creature extremly alike the chicken biologically, who laid a slightly mutated offspring which was right over the line to be called a chicken. Basic evolutionary biology.

It was only a breif glimse...But I swear I saw Lars in the audience at 'The Miss Universe Pagent', in 'Lesser of Two Evils.'

There is a scene looking into the audience when Helatina Smogmyre was introduced...and I swear there was Lars.

Fry is a romantic at heart.  I would gladly make little ginger babies with him.

They'd be stupid but very good looking.

I don't think that he was that smart to start. Even though he was missing the Delta Brainwave it wouldn't make him that much smarter.

No, it made him stupider. I think what Winna means is that his ability to function without it means that he possesses some impressively intuitive, even instinctual, capacity for mental orientation. The cerebral equivalent of a multiple-amputee adapting to doing things with only one limb, or a blind person finding their way around. With an integral portion of mental functionality denied him, Fry has nevertheless managed to be a functional person. That's a kind of smart.

Is the Delta Brainwave that important? I didn't realize that. It also sorta explains how he's related to the Professor.

About the brainwave thing:

I think the writers have now settled comfortably in a situation in which they can give Fry any level of intelligence: Either an extreme moron, up to temporary glimpses of genius (e.g. writing the greatest opera of all time requires quite some brain).

- A brain/thinking has to be trained. Without the Delta Brainwave, Fry's thought processes are different from anyone else in the universe. So no one in the whole universe can probably REALLY teach/train him properly (at least not in the way two delta-brainwave persons can learn from each other).

- Fry is capable of figuring things out for himself, and can be really good at those. (Leela didn't teach him to fly the PE ship in TKOS, but he learned himself; he became an above average cop quickly; in WITHW, he became an efficient soldier as soon as he wanted to and went on the solve problems his way, etc...). His lazyness is the usual limitation, as the does not really WANT to learn something very often...

This leaves the question open if Fry's brain is really inferior, or does bear an to-the-maximum-of-human-possible-potential regarding certain aspects (e.g.composer). A potential which he cannot activate, or is just too lazy to do so.

Well...my two cents.

Lars never has those brainfart moments that Fry simply can't control. They removed too much of Fry's glorious stupidity in creating the Lars storyline.

SGB, I've already properly responded to that statement in a different thread :p I think Fry's always gonna be a little dumb in the show, even if he faces events more tragic than those in BBS and no matter how many dozens of years he lives. Season 4 alone showed more events that should've hardened him but didn't. Maybe he wasn't ready to mature yet but bottom line, I think Lars should've retained more of Fry's aloofness and general stupidity (just have him be wiser and more mature, but still susceptible to blurting out wierd shit and not understanding everything).
