Kif's full name is Kif Kroker.

I guess Fry just like the Fry better than Phillip. Even Mr. Panucci in "Space Pilot 3000" calls him Fry.

People call me by by middle name. I prefer it. Besides, if you were called Turanga, wouldnt you prefer Leela?

For Fry- I dunno, I guess Fry just likes being called Fry because it sounds cooler.  His name has been Philip since the start of the series, becuase you can see it printed on the computer screen in "Space Pilot 3000".  No plothole there.

For Leela- Leela is her first name.  After "Leela's Homeworld" aired some people on the board here mentioned that Turanga is her last name, but mutant last names are actually written first.  This might be a rumor, but I like it, so I'll continue to believe it.

Also, Zoidberg is always called by his last name too.  Maybe it's a common occurance in the 31st century.

They call him either Dr. Zoidberg or just Zoidberg; generally doctors are called Dr. whatever.

A writer said those mutants in the sewer go last name/first name.

And Fry's first name was phillip since the script was made.  It was originally Curtis, but it was changed to honor phil hartman.

But Leela wouldn't know about the last name/first name bit until "Leela's Homeworld". Up until "Leela's Homeworld" everybody thinks Leela is her lastname.

if the characters introduce themselves to the other characters as Fry, Leela, etc then that's what the others call them.
plus Turanga is a stupid name

They took that from modern day culture. In todays world, Chinese names are siad as the last name then as the first, for example Hou Tong Chen.

Her braclet has the name Turanga Leela on it. If it was written out 'Turanga, Leela', then the comma would donate that Turanga is her last name. BAM!   :laff:

Just so you know, Turanga is a place in SE Asia. If we really want to try and explain everything then maybe Leela's family oringinated from there centuries before. I doubt Leela is their last name, because if you think Leela is a slight adjustment of Leila - Leila is an Arabic first name for a girl "who was born during the night" or something close. Just my thoughts.

Yes, this was brought up a little while ago actually.  I don't rememeber where, but the name was supposed to be a pun on that symphony's name.

Unlikely, otherwise her nose would look different. Interesting theory, anyway.

So, if we consider that Leela is her first name, than the question is:
She (Leela) certainly calls Fry by his last name, though Fry, Bender and others call Leela by her first name. IMHO, it's very strange, isn't it?

Welcome Loki.  :D

Well everyone else calls each other by their first names except Fry and Zoidberg (I think) and Hubert Farnsworth who they just call Professor. They call Zoidberg that because technically it's Dr Zoidberg but maybe they feel that they don't want to call him Doctor due to his record. (Leela seems to call him Doctor Zoidberg more then any other person I think - interesting)
The way I see it when Leela asked Philip Fry in his name Space Pilot 3000 and he just said Fry instead of Philip I think it's because he prefered to be called Fry. He calls himself Fry to Bender - Bender doesn't even find out his first name is Philip until The Problem With Popplers

Please forgive me this offtopic, but I have one question. Why I don't see my signature?
Its very important for me, because I am from Russia, and I always have to apologize like this: "Excuse me my bad English, cause I am from Russia"    :)?
So if there would be too many mistakes in my messges, just tell me and I shut up    :)
--------------------------

And what can you say about this:
"Problem Whith Poplers":

Linda: Tonight, on Date Night: Popplers - eating them. Is it all right to? We have with us the C.E.O. of Fishy Joe's Mr. Fishy Jo Gilman, noted anti-eating activist, Free Waterfall, Jr., and the discoverer of popplers, Captain Turanga Leela.
Fry: Turanga?
Amy: That's her name, Philip.
Bender: Philip?

Does it means that Turanga is her first name like Philip is his?

The above post proves that the PE crew did know Leela's first name before "Leela's Homeworld". Also, we hear them call Farnsworth by his title rather than by Hubert. Otherwise, it would be easy to know why he named his clone Cubert.

General concensous around here is that Leela is her first name but since she's from a different society (sewers) or whatever they don't say Leela Turanga, they say Turanga Leela like with her father who's called Maurice, his name is Turanga Maurice.
Last Name then First Name. It's rather complicated but do you get what I mean?

I wouldn't worry about your English Loki, we've had born and bred Englishmen making a complete mess of the language. I don't know why your sig doesn't show though.  :confused:

The mistake here is saying "first name" and "last name" instead of "given name" and "family name," causing confusion.

Anyway, The Leela Zone's Leela Biography holds all the answers! ...Including the names of her parents--Munda and Morris (yeek!).

My money's on that you're using Quikpost, and you can't use your sig with QP.  Try hitting "reply" at the bottom of the page or "quote" underneath someone else's post.

I think its pretty clear that their names are Phillip Fry and Turanga Leela. Leela and Fry are their last names.

Thats what I think/am set in my ways unless I am given reasonable evidence to disprove the claim.

Well, these ARE their "last" names, since they come last in the sequence. But in Leela's case, Turanga is the FAMILY name.

Today I watched “Leela Homeworld” again. And I come to a conclusion that truly Leela is her name and Turanga is her 'family name'. And nothing can force me to change my mind  :).
In fact, I noticed that her mother called her dad Morris. But it means nothing. His name may be Turanga Morris or Morris Leela, though the last one sounds unattractive for my Russian ear  :).
BUT! Do you remember the last scene when her mother put a box with a birthday gift for Leela?
It was signed: “Happy birthday Leela”. It became clear for me that Leela is her name. Because parents would never sign the birthday present for their beloved daughter using her FAMILY name.
(I hope I say it in the right way and you understand what I mean)  :D

In my group of friends we call each other by which ever is shortest - first name, last name, or nickname.

Andrew Ray => Ray
Richard Leech => Leech
Edward Wicks => Eddie
and so on.

With both Phillip Fry and Turonga Leela the last names are shorter. Maybe it is just laziness on the PE crew's part. In Kif Kroker, Kif is shorter. Frankly I think Fry sounds much better than Phillip.

When I was in high school, most of the other kids called me by my last name.  I do have a rather common first name, and there was usually more than one David in my classes, so it was less confusing that way.

My friends call me Dave, though.   :)
