When the Conrads and Farnsworths are confronting Horrible Gelatinous Blob near the end of the episode in the space neighborhood, they're standing out in space.

Force fields. Similar technology seemed to be employed on the surface of the Near-Death Star in A Clone of my Own. And in other parts of the series I can't recall.

Also, maybe because it's just a cartoon and not a serious work of hard science-fiction.
