In futurama whenever they generally show films that are made in the past to them but in the future to us they seem to be behind our technology- with film grain and balck and white

What possible explanations do people have?

I believe either that the technology for the films very HD or holograms were so great that they had to go back to making older looking films.
Or that the culture repeated itself again and old-looking films came back into style.

The Retro Act of 2968 required all educational films to be grainy, so as to remove any chance of being entertained by them.

I'm sure the second coming of Jesus had something to do with it.

Digital media was exposed to all kinds of viruses during the information wars, making it necessary to utilize analogue recording media for a time.

The RIAA and MPAA made it mandatory that every digital copy is degraded in quality. This one's actually quite likely... damn MAFIAA bastards!
