when bender cooked dinner for the first time it was too salty so every one spit it out. then they drank salt water and spit that out. now i can understand that but why would dr. zoidberg spit it the salt water? i mean he is a lobster thing. he lived at the bottom of the ocean okay in the lost city of atlanta.

He probabaly spat the water out because Bender had put too much salt in it for his liking, in other words the salt level in the glass of water was way higher then that in the ocean.

Either that or everyone was doing, and he's very susceptible to peer pressure.

Hi

Zoidberg is a lobster, and all that that entails
And supper swings with rotten fish, with sea-slugs,  squid and snails,
But though his food's eclectic, I think you will agree
That while he dines upon salt-C, he doesn't like salt-E!

Hi

Zoidberg is a lobster, or at least a lobsteroid,
And saline concentrations can affect our lobster Zoid.
Of salt, a gallon of seawater just a hundred grams  will yield,
But Bender uses TEN TIMES MORE to SATURATE his meal!

Hi

<<sigh>>

Ok.  I'll resort to PROSE!

A gallon of seawater holds about 100 grams of salt (oh, and other non-salt stuff too - it's pretty wild stuff, but since we're just talking about the salt, here....)

That's the water that our Loony Lobster was happy with.

Bender's bill of fare had, and I probably mis-quote, "Salt, with water in it."  Since it was still liquid, I have to assume that it was a saturated solution of salt, which punches in at about 1100 grams.

That's ten times MORE salt, right?

So (lapsing back into rhyme):

Zoidberg is a lobster, as previously stated,
Who's shy of salt solutions that he finds are saturated.
The sea's Ok, you see, because there's really nothing wrong
In liking salt solutions one eleventh-ish as strong!

Maybe Zoidberg could not tolerate having too much salt.  Besides, that was Bender's first time at cooking, and since Zoidberg is a lobster maybe there's just so much salt water an alien lobster could take!  Maybe to Zoidberg, it was like when Fry said he once remembered having a heaping bowl of salt to eat in that episode.

First off, Zoidberg isn't a lobster. He's a Decapodian. Yeah, he can live in the ocean but that doesn't mean he likes the taste of salt water. Humans can swim in salt water too but that doesn't mean they drink it or enjoy the taste of it.

all sea creatures have to keep a balance of salt in and out of thier bodies.  It is quite possible that the drink went over zoidbergs "salt intake" so he had to spit it out to get rid of it.

Other sea creatures do this as well.  Thats why fish keep moving, to keep the water moving over thier gills, but also to let salt out that way.

Not just sea creatures.  All living things do.  Too little salt in your body can be just as deadly as too much.

Being a sea creature, Zoidberg could safely drink seawater (which is about 3.5% salt by weight), but higher concentrations of salt would be dangerous.  He could tolerate higher concentrations of salt than a human could, but too much of it could still kill him.

Correct, all creatures do, but for the sake of arguement, I focused on the sea creatures.

Anyways, yeah, the drink of water could have put him overboard on his salt.

Certainly.  When Fry asked Bender if the water was saltwater, Bender said, "It's salt with water in it, if that's what you mean."  In other words, it was mostly salt.  There was much more salt in that glass than there would have been in a glass of seawater.

Uh......no they don't.

Anyway, my point is (and somehow I doubt you're going to get it...) that sure, Zoidberg can LIVE in saltwater but that doesn't mean he DRINKS it and enjoys the taste of it. His gills filter the oxygen out of the water, not his mouth and tastebuds.

Lets put this another way... Zoidberg can survive in salt water, yeah? Bender basically served salt with water in it. No one (except some wierdo) would like to drink salt water. Not even fish or sea creatures. Zoidberg breaths through his gills underwater... but he dosnt drink it to survive.
