In the 1st Episode, why does he say "I don't need to drink I can quit anytime I want"

Thats not true at all, he does need to drink and he can't quit or he will shut down.

Also, when in the suicide booth, Bender never pushes the START button...

With the alchohol, it's a running joke with addicts who say that they can quit anytime they want, even though they can't.

And with the suicide booth....uhhh... let's just say there's a foot switch.

Maybe it's like a phone booth. You can dial the number first and then put in the money or you can put in the money and then dial.

Wrong, he can substitute the alcohol with efficient synthetic fuel and function just as fine.

They're disintegrated. Note the flash under the door before Fry steps in in SP3k.

Because killing off two of the main characters in the premiere episode is a real good way to jump the shark.
