Allegators in Astronuant Gear

In the episode, "Episode Two: The Series Has Landed" when Fry and Leela jumped over that pit with the allegators, how come the gators were wearing astronuant helmets?  Anyone notice that?  Were the gators from Earth, perhaps?

Also, besides the amusment park, is the moon supposed to be like a trailer park?

No, besides Lunar Park and the farm the Moon is supposed to be an empty, lifeless, boring, barren, desolate rock. Much like today.

The alligators and redneck moonman are there as jokes at the expense of Florida, the state that's home to Disney World, Luna Park's inspiration.

Although Luna Park actually bears a stronger resemblence to Disney Land (California) or a Six Flags (everywhere, especially Texas,) as opposed to Disney World (Florida), which is closer to being a resort.

Just thought of something: Florida is also where every moon mission - and every other orbital flight by the American space program - has started.
