Mmmm...hover Segways maybe. Never see Amy's Thundercougarfalconbird parked around the PE building. Perhaps the Prof. leases out singularites.

It's probably insured through an insurance company. Amy's Dad probably owns a few. Repaired/replaced. It would probably take a rich father to insure someone like Amy given she's a such a klutz.

Other than the purple car Leela drives (looks like a Chrysler), there's the multi-pod car Zoidberg probably rents on his home world. Also saw one on a poster behind Fry in the apartment last night in "Godfellas". Looked like a hover Ferrari.

My Guesses:
#1- WIZARDS!
#2- They had to much cement.
#3- They still have regular cars as well as hover cars. And they do still have non-hover cars. I think Eyedol's idea is the best.

Hovering high or low would take the same amount of energy. Moving up or laterally would require higher energy. If it were a true antigravity it would also have to adjust for the centrifugal force of the planet's rotation in order not to be flung into space (common hover ed. mistake). But still there aren't a lot of parked cars, parking spaces, or garages in the show. The streets may be there because of the highway lobby or made of recycled chewing gum.

if it's for cars on wheels, how come in "The Honking" they all sounded so surprised when bender was describing the "horrible" non-hovercar that ran him over that had some kind of "rubber wheels".

yeah and hovercars also use the streets sometimes, at least for parking (Put your head on my shoulder). and if there were no streets would they just put 1 sidewalk between buildings? cant imagine that would be very nice. i think its just like a tradition... there have always been streets (somehow i dont think the government cares enough about poor people and hippies to keep the streets just for them). edit: oh and about the VW van, actually they were sort of surprised, not by the wheels though ("where's the device that lets you speed and slow the passage of time?" "under the seat" *pulls out a bong* )

Cities have been closing off streets and turning them into "pedestrian malls" for some time now. I wonder if internal combusion cars would be considered an eco-friendly alternative in a thousand years compared to what hover cars leave behind.
