My take on Blernsball is that it is just like baseball only with a futuristic twist.

....When asked if the rules of Blernsball, Oskaar Blernski [the inventor] stated that:

The rules are only as hard to understand as you make them!

The Futurama staff have categorically stated that the rules for Blernsball have been deliberately placed just beyond the comprehension of the audience. There are no hard & fast rules that the writers need to stick to. If an inning is comprised of three outs, this does not necessarily mean that Leela's seventy-seven innings and zero outs break the rules.

For example, Leela is a comedy stunt on the part of the team. She may be brought in for a single pitch, then replaced with somebody who doesn't suck for the next one. Or she may be brought in for the end of the game, when she can knock out the entire opposition, making it the last inning of the game by default.

We never have anything explicitly explained to us, but there is a system that governs the game - the principle that whenever something appears simple enough to understand, something weird and outrageous (such as a giant spider, or the multiball feature) gets thrown in there simply to obfuscate the nature of what is going on.

Upon listening to your DVD commentary for ALOHO, you will understand.

And how is it that this thread has somehow become 75% flame and 10% idiocy, yet not been locked by Nixorbo, Tweek, mArc, or those other daring young mods in their flying machines?

And in recent news, Major League Baseball are considering the adoption of some Blernsball rules to "spice up the game a bit".

Here's a recent example of how a bit of multiball can add to the excitement of the fans and players, both!
