In ep. 204 : X-Mas Story, Bender recieves a card from his mother, with a picture of her inside. This crane robot that is apparently Bender's mother, looks exactly like Calculon does in his initial form in ep. 218, The Honking. Anyone else notice this before?

Yeah...I just haven't cared that much. I don't think about it because it wouldn't be that weird for there to be more than one of the same kind of machine. Kinda like Bender and Flexo.

But that was almost 1000 years ago that Calculon was an arm. Bender was about four years old at the time of that episode. If Calculon changes form every few decades, and it says in his bio that he's 27, then he was the robot actor Calculon long before Bender was constructed.

problem solved....

....although benders mom could be calculons great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandaughter.

or

another robot arm that was built like calculon's earliest self(building the evil car).

There are only so many ways of building an industrial robotic arm. Is it really that shocking that robotic arms look the same in the 21st and 31st century? Two arms who really aren't identical.

I mean, this is like debating a Model T and a Ford Escort being the same car because they have the same basic features.

In what way? Im a fan of Escorts *points at name* especially the mk2 escort (1977-1981)

With the arm thing, why change something that works?

4 wheels, internal combustion, controlled by steering wheel in front, left area, that kind of basic stuff.

Nice theory but im afraid it wont work since as lamp pointed out calculon was an arm 1000 years ago while bender is only 4 years old.
Another thing that i find strange though is that i thought Mom was Bender's mom (obsoletely fabulous), i mean i know he was obviously still built in a factory somewhere and not actually by Mom herself, but he still always calls her his mom, and she calls all robots her sons or whatever a robot would call his/her "kids".

edit: how do i include my signature? i spent all this time making an uber cool signature to go with my avatar and i cant even use it

Use "Reply" rather than the "Quickpost" option, and remember to check the signature box.

I thought Mom was Benders mom. I mean, he gives her the gifts on mother's day, not a gigantic robot arm.

Maybe Mom programed the robots to think she was the mom (to keep all the robots under her control), until bender forgot after having his brain chip taken out and put back in or from rebooting, only then he realized who his real mother was. and as for calculon being the mother, probally not, but they did exist at the same time period, when bender's head fell out of the ship and got buried in the ground, so he's actually older then calculon, in a sense.

Yeah, Calculon is definately not Benders Mom. In fact, they don't even look the same:

Calculon had treads. Bender's mom was affixed to the floor. Victory goes to GreyThinkyWhale.

Yeah, and besides the treads...Calculon's arm is centered on his base on a pivot that twists side to side, whereas Ma Bender's arm is on one side of it, on a really, really big round joint that swings up and down.

Ma B's base has two triangular side units supporting a smaller center portion, while Calculon's base is a solid unit shaped like a truncated obelisk.

To top it off, Calculon has an extra joint on his upper arm that Bender's mom doesn't.

They're both gold robotic arms, sure...but Ewan MacGregor and Kenneth Brannaugh are both light-haired, bearded, caucasian males, and no one accuses them of being the same person...

I am arresting Bender for thinking Calculon is a female. I am bringing him to the Argonopedia Hall of Justice for punification.
