My confusion/realization came when I first saw the "A Taste for Freedom" episode and I wondered why they actually kept the scene with Old Man Waterfall's daughter, or whatever it was, running out and talking in a manish voice. It was just weird, and not funny at all. Until I figured out the joke...

In the episode, "Problem with the Popplers" we meet the first, Free Waterfall, Jr. They introduced him on the T.V. show he appeared in with Leela.

He dies in the very same episode he is introduced in.

The second is Free Waterfall, Sr., in the episode "Birdbot from Ice-catraz" He does introduced himself (he says his name in the beginning), and he also dies in the very same episode he is introduced in. When he dies, an old man appears in the background (in the very distance, and is hard to see), and the old man says, "I'll avenge you, son!" That was Old Man Waterfall, who isn't fully introduced until "A Taste For Freedom," where he also died in the very same episode he was introduced in.

All these Waterfall characters were introduced in an episode, and featured as an important character, until the end, where they die for seemingly no reason. I think they were all voiced by the same guy, which explains the manish voice from the last of the clan.

It must be an inside joke, or something.

"Inside" only in the sense that

who figured that out long before today.

Man, you're a real OBSERVANT viewer aren't you? This had to be one of the most obvious running jokes of the show, right up there with all the Zoidberg bashing. They even mentioned it in the commentaries. Dumbass.

I reckon this topic's been done (oh, you guessed that?   :p) - try using the search button before starting a thread, make sure someone hasn't already covered what you're saying.

And I'd recommend lurking as well to get a measure of the folk/conventions here, guy    :)

its a long running joke that every free waterfall dies in the episode that they were shown in.
we know for certain that old man died because he was squished but what about sr. free waterfall we don't know if those penguins finished him off (probably dew to the fox network) or if lrrrr spat  out free waterfall junior because when we see lrrr next he isn't all hippie or he simply could of digested him.

EDIT the post makes no sense

No, it doesn't make sense, I'm recovering from a headache, stop confusing me dammit!  ;)

Also, they killed Free waterfall III in the comics, but it wasn't as funny.

This always happens, someone posts a topic that has already been done, I know it must be annoying for people that have already seen it a jillion times, but its even more annoying for someone who has just joined to get a vicious patronising reaction to what is probably their first thread. Redirection and closure is OK for these sort of threads, along with helpful comments like those from Marcus.

But hey, I'm only a crustacean, so what do I know?

I don't recall ever seeing a thread like this before.  And honestly I didn't realize the running joke with the Free Waterfall clan at all.  So I'm glad I saw this thread (even if it has supposedly been done a bazillion times), but then again maybe I don't pay much attention, even though I've seen the commentaries to all those episodes...  :D

Not everybody has seen the commentaries and some people will be new to the show. Stop insulting people it isn't funny.

I'm not trying to be funny, I'm trying to be informative. Informing people to maybe learn something about a show before they go posting at the board for it...

Tweek, if people are new to the show, chances are they wouldn't have seen all the epsiodes mentioned here anyway.

Also, if they don't have the DVD's, then yes. They won't have seen (heard) the commentaries. However, I'd expect any fan worth his/her salt to stay away from a forum devoted to the show if they've not seen all the episodes. Due to the randomness of FOX's airing schedule, this means that even people in the US would have DVD's by now, as they've been released over there for some time.

PEEL is known as nerd-world for a reason. You can't come to PEEL and start saying things that we've known and posted about for ages, without Lampy calling you a dumbass.

Be a real moderator, and close this thread down already. Use those powers for good, not just for whoring HTML at people. Take some action, dammit!

HeathenGrey: Please, for the love of God, think about the fact that collectively, there is nothing that PEEL doesn't already know about Futurama. Well, nothing that is publicly available anyway.

I'll say one more thing about it. The Waterfall killings remind me of SouthPark's killing Kenny.

And yes, they did kill Free Waterfall the third in the comics. Morbo Electocutes him on a game show.

The killing of Kenny on South Park is like this but it's not a joke and it happens in every episode.(Oh and by the way,CARTMAN Is AWSOME!)
