In the episode "Xmas Story", when Leela is looking at her photo album, we see a picture of her as a baby on a shelf beside a sign labelled "Abandoned Property".  To her right is a robot's arm that looks suspiciously like Bender's.  Could this be a "secret" of some sort, or am I just making a mountain out of a molehill?

I'll take the last possibility. Bender is build about 20 years after that picture is taken. The arm probably belong to one of Bender's older colleagues.

Bender's not unique in that design.  After all, he's one of presumably thousands of similarly shaped bending robots.  Heck, even Flexo looks the same.

Unless I'm wrong.  In that case, Ttomalss, I owe you a Coke.

Probably a nursery robot, but Cookieville orphanarium was poor. I rest my own case.

Yeah, but he is number 22, meaning that he was one of the first to be made. If he was made 20 years after Leela was born, bending units probably didn't exist when she was a baby.

Bender's serial number is 2716057. Bending Unit 22 most likely refer to the model series (which could be an old design).

Ha, that'd make that factory recall for Bending Units 7, 22, 48, 256-948*all the more funnier  :p
*Something like that, I can't quite remember them all...

Nah, I think Bender Rodriguez is number 22 - though yeah, since he's also got such a different serial code, perhaps the term only refers to his home factory in Mexico. Or his mommy? Perhaps he is only the 22nd Bending Unit they/she made, and they'll call him that when they want to talk to him personally, and perhaps he's proud of that, s'why he may use Bendering Unit 22 elsewhere.
I don't know, I've dragged on a bit haven't I...?

Basically the thing I was going to say that while I don't think it was Bender, or one of his class, let's remember that the first robot Farnsworth perfected suspiciously looked like a Bender. So there's probably been several Bender looking robots down the years.

Good lord...
 :p
