what we learned here is love tastes bitter when it’s gone
past yourself forget the light, things look dirty when it’s on
funny how it comes to pass, that all the good slips away
and there’s no one around you can remember being good to you

I think several people are just posting their favourite song whether the opening line is good or not  :hmpf:

"Soon I discovered, that this rock thing was true. Jerry Lee Lewis was the devil. Jesus was an architect previous to his career as a prophet. All of a sudden, I found myself in love with the world, so there is but one thing I could do: It was ding-a-ding dang my dang-a-long ling-long."

uhhh
No one would have believed, in the last years of the nineteenth century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized(?) as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life from another planet. And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes. And slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us
(i don't know if i got all that right though)
Jeff Wayne - The Eve Of The War

but that's not really rock is it?
also it's not really 1 line

oh well
I was looking for trouble, and boy, i found her
Type O Negative - Christian Woman
but that's not really rock either is it?

man i need a rock song... hmm

errr... what's the definition of rock?

Pretty much anything, from the 60's to today. On Radio 2 they had entries like

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

Guns n Roses - Sweet child of mine

It is meant to be the opening line only, but what the heck, if you really like a particular verse then go ahead and post it.

"You don't want me anymore, so I just walk right out the door, played a game right from the start, I trust you, you used me, now my heart's all torn apart"
Bad Brains - Sailin' On

That "walk right out the door" line makes it sound like such a cool and casual verse to me.

"If you ate my shit, then you'd probably talk twice as good as you do now"
Throwdown-'No More Hate'

"Ohhh,
Meet the man that made me
Greet the can I came from
Oh the fucking sacred heart of Jesus
BLEW it in the back room
Feelin' like a real goon
Slam the fuck aside, man
I'M ON - YOU'RE NOT"
-Slipknot, 'Eeyore'

one of the best opening verses ever:

"I don't like a fuckin' thing! Music sucks dick
Suck the snot end of the tip of my prick
You fucking cunts, get off of my back
I don't wanna do a show with your shitty
fuckin' band - You suck, they suck, guess what, get fucked
I can't think of any other words to say but fuck
Don't drag our opinions, our opinions are great
It's new school face muthafuckers I hate"
-Slipknot, 'Get This'

"Alright!
Hey what's the matter with you,
what are you trying to do, I'm wrecking my brain
Still I don't get it. Did i ever hurt you in any way?
If I did, then hear my apology: FUCK YOU!"
-Children Of Bodom, 'You're Better Off Dead'

"You hold me inside your iris like a terminal stain on life."
-Stone Sour, 'Orchid'

"GODDAMN YOU!"
-Stone Sour, 'Tumult'

"I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound"
-Slipknot, 'Disasterpieces'

"TROGDORRRRRR!"
-Strong Bad, 'Trogdor the Burninator'

I can't believe they'd censor that line.  What a bunch of wishy washy idiots.  Ranks right up there with the "industry watchdogs" trying to censor the word "higher" from the Doors' "Light My Fire"

Please! Save us from ourselves.

Apparently, it's wrong to say the word "war", it might upset people.

Meanwhile:

"I am the god of hell-fire, and I bring you....

"Fire" - The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown.

Arthur Brown is coming to York and guess who's band is going to support him.  Cool huh?!

I have two different versions of Gay Bar- one has the "money" verse, the other doesn't. Both have the "nuclear war" verse... strange.

That's awesome! I was watching TOTP2 some months ago, and that song came on. My mum said she remembers it from when she was my age!  :D

On-topic...

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill,
I could see the city lights,
Wind was blowing, time stood still,
Eagle flew out of the night...

- Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill. Another favourite song of mine  :)
