Personally, I don't see the resemblance since I've only heard one Kid Rock song (which was half rap anyway, maybe you like him more than I do?).
At least some of them are still alive and well after that "plane crash".  :laff:

For those who who like ..Trail Of Dead, et al - please go "find" some tracks by Aereogramme.

"Zionist Timing" is a standout track.  Spiff, you'll like them especially.

EDIT: I saw Trail Of Dead at The Leeds Festival 2001, and they were fantastic.

I'm not a rocker, I'm not a rapper either. Sometimes to find your niche you have to risk being alienated. This is why it's hard for me to discuss music with other people.

True.  However, two of the remaining members of Queen have been guilty of "dead horse flogging" and befouling the memory of one of the greatest frontmen in the history of music, with the amount of crappy cover-versions and abominable west-end plays they put their names to.

They should either:

1) Go away forever.
2) Recruit prodigious new frontman with amazing voice, and go on tour.

For the fans, go and buy the Queen Live At Wembley 1986 DVD, and remember them that way.

The Three golden rules Music tastes
a) Have to play real music, none of that synthisised/keyboard crap
Is it just me or is the term 'Music' Becoming more and more loose?
b) Non-faggy bands are just as important to satisfy as the first rule. Eg. Creed, Gob, The Ataris Too many others to name.
So, there goes half of the punk bands
c) Good vocals... this is a really flimsy rule for me... Yellers i sometimes dont mind, i like Damaged (Damn i wish i could drum like that guy!), The Used, Spineshank and many others, but Slipknot and many others like them don't work for me

In short
A) Have to play real music
B) Can't be a band full of fags
C) Good Vocals

Fave bands include Grinspoon, Foo fighters and too many more to mention
EDIT : BTW i chose 'Rock'  :D

Metal rules.  I played in a metal band back in the day.  Gleno, I remember you posting about Dimmu Borgir in the favorite song thread, I find death metal/black metal (or whatever the hell you call that) to be nothing more than comical, unfortunately.  We used to get a lot of laughs out of covering just Manowar tunes, let alone Dimmu Borgir.

"Hogg hodet av hver kristen
og voldta deres kvinner og barn"

A lot of PEELers are gonna understand that, and it's just sensationalism.  I can't imagine it's serious.

But I'm into punk lately.  GG Allin, Choking Victim, Agnostic Front, Casualties.  Maybe I think they're funny too.  GG Allin is, if anything, more sensationalist than Dimmu Borgir.

And yes, you're contractually obligated to dance when you get a post at the top of the page.

I like softer metal, like Metallica, Adema, etc. I like the music of heavy metal most of the time just usually i don't like the singing. I also like more meaningful songs. Also I'ma fairly new metal and screaming rock fan, I just got into it. I used to hate LP but now I love them.

I posted here before.  This was just to disuss metal.(see earlier post)

Cute. And to think that some Americans think Eminem's lyrics are too explicit.   ;)

This reminds of the group Red Warszawa which has made such memorable songs as "Santa's suicide note", "Hurrah the school's on fire", "I hate all people", "The EPO Song" and their wonderful song about shopping at German discount stores, "Aldi". Truly juvenile and funny stuff.   :D

Yeah, I don't think it's really meant in earnest.  Some of the punk bands I mentioned have lyrics like "I kill everything I fuck," or "Let's go kill us a cop."  It's so over the top that you can't really believe it.  Well, maybe you can from GG Allin, but I knew one of the guys from the other band vaguely back in the day, and I don't believe he ever killed a cop.  It's more likely he got beat up every day in high school and reinvented himself as a crackhead criminal to forget about it.
Same with death metal bands like Dimmu Borgir.  they all probably play Warcraft 20 hours a day and spent their formative years eating their lunches alone in the art teacher's office.  Which is not an indictment of their character, I still like them, I'm just saying they're overrated as a threat to civilisation.

I love metal. Turn on some SpineShank and im happier than a green snake in a sugarcane field.I recently got to see them in concert and they kicked ass. Other good bands:
Smashing Pumpkins, Pantera, Machine Head, Earth Crisis, Pissing Razors, Tool, and War In America.

Oldies also kicks ass. I love so many of the British Invasion bands. The Kinks, the Who, Pink Floyd, the Doors... I could go on.

I'm a total metalhead. I prefer oldschool thrash metal. I'm not really into death metal ( although Morbid Angel and Death are damn good bands ) and I hate black metal. Great bands are Testament, Sepultura, Meshuggah and the almighty gods of thrash Slayer.

-Older rock: Ramones, Misfits,
-heavier and industrial: Napalm Death, Nailbomb,
-I like insane bizarre rock like 80's Matchbox B-line Disaster, Arab On Radar, Lightning Bolt, etc. These don't really fit into a genre.
-Sometimes I even listen to hip hop, mostly Arsonists, De La Soul and Insane Clown Posse (just kidding about ICP  :laff: )

"I praise the song of defeat
I am the bottom, and he's the summit
A sorrowful farewell
Where does salvation dwell...."

Band is rotting Christ (my fave band)

yeah. people often have a fit because of lyrics that clearly are not meant in a serious way. a great example is a punk band from germany called "die kassierer" (the cashiers).
their songs have titles like "ich töte meinen nachbarn und verprügel seine leiche" (i'll kill my neighbour and beat up his corpse), "ich onaniere in den kopflosen rumpf von uwe seeler" (i'm masturbating in the headless body of uwe seeler*) *=famous german soccer player or "rudelfick im altersheim" (gang bang in the nursing home).
they have songs about killing people in pretty cruel and weird ways, having sex with 15 year old girls, infected dicks and so on.
at first, this sounds rather mean. but the lyrics are so stupid (on purpose, btw) and so obviously over the top it's just hilarious.
and yet, every time they release a new record, people try to abolish it.

I hereby demand that the term fags be banished forever, or at least never refered to when putting down bands lest the argument lose any credibility it once had. I'm looking at YOU Rage Dump.

@Spiff: I like it. We have a guy at work a bit like that. He never shuts up about wanking, blowing people etc. yet he is so obviously over the top that it is clear he is just joking. However if you didn't know himf rom Adam you'd think he was a sick fuck who needed serious mental help.

@evan: Well I never really liked Metal, but I want to be part of the outsiders gang so can I join please?

i can understand that all too well.
i can easilly listen to metal (as long as nobody's growling), but it's not my favorite genre. it just gets boring after a while.
and i'm sick of this megalomaniac song writing some metal bands have. just think of blind guardian. their songs sound as if they had about 12 guitars, two full orchestras and whatnot - and yet, there're still only one or two melodies being played at the same time in the song.
if you want that kind of song writing, make it sound good and make it sound complex. i want music that fucks with my head.

What is Hardcore? I listen to Hardcore and I need to clarify this as the Hardcore I listen to is at the root of alot of  breakbeat dance music.
The Prodigy for example were a Hardcore group from the early nineties and as far as I'm concerned there last two albums were Hardcore, albeit upgraded with modern sounds and samples but his roots are still there(even though Liam says he hated Hardcore, I think) as he sampled The Horn Track for use on his tune Climbatize(sp).

I also agree with the Dance/Trance options (but who cares, this thread is old, right?)
It should either be just Dance or there should be a selection of the main dance sub-genres. The same goes for Rock too.

I chose Dance but I listen to quite alot, from oldies to the latest Techno sounds!

Nerdlingus, you need to get out more.  Maybe quit popping e and frugging with a bunch of 14 year olds for a couple days.

Hardcore is the genre that emerged from the confluence of punk and thrash metal in the early '80s.  Think Minor Threat and Black Flag.  It's diversified a lot now, and the scene ranges from straightedge to emo to power violence and grind, but it's all just punk with metal drumming.

Rush is a Canadian prog rock and glitter rock band started in the early '70s.  It's Geddy Lee and Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson.  They're kind of nerdy.

And how many threads do we have for music tastes?  Can't we pick one and stick with it?

Early '80s Rush rules.  And that's really insightful, about your favourite albums being the best when you're 15.  For me, it was Houses of the Holy back then.  Oh, man, those were the days.  I can remember sitting up all night listening to that.  Led Zeppelin is probably the single reason I survived that period.
