So until Maxis produce the patch to fix this, my Sims will remain in limbo.

"The Sims" and it's various addons are some of the buggiest games I've ever played.  "Unleashed" was particularly bad, and when I downloaded the Maxis patch for the game, it resulted in further problems that rendered the game virutally unplayable.

Right now I've got "The Sims" and "Vacation" installed, the other addons I have are gathering dust on the shelf until I work up the enthusiasm to take them to a second hand shop.

I've got five of the packs:

  • Livin' It Up (Livin' Large for the States)
  • House Party
  • Hot Date
  • On Holiday (Vacation for the States)
  • Unleashed

I didn't bother with Superstar or Makin' Magic, because frankly by that time it was getting ridiculous.

I always felt that Vacation was the worst of the bunch, though. Half the objects don't even have proper descriptions in the catalog.  Hot Date annoyed me because it made social relationships so much harder to maintain (in the original Sims, I always used to just queue up a whole load of Talk/Joke/Hug interactions to produce a friend, which won't work in Hot Date). Unleashed, I actually felt was good value for money. Not only did you get pets, finally, but the Old Town lots (no need for cash to go downtown).

The Sims 2 is a fantastic step up, in my opinion, but this bug is so obvious, and will eventually hit everybody, that it's thrown the question of whether Maxis and EA actually did any playtesting on the game.

Anyone have Fable? If not, you must get this game. You won't be disapointed.

I just got the Sims 2 and I haven't yet noticed this "jumping bug".  What exactly is the issue and is it universal, or just when you use a certain object or interaction?  Is it something that will permanently mess up a saved family? (Because I had major issues with that in the first Sims.)

The major symtom of the bug is that Sims are no longer able to "Talk" (the pure "Talk" interaction). This affects:

  • Social Eating
  • Social TV Watching
  • WooHooing

And basically any interaction where the afflicted Sim "chats" with other Sims. Unfortunately it appears this bug can also "infect" other family members. What happens is that the Sim will begin the interaction, but before it can initiate, the Sims will "jump", as the game appears to default out of a corrupted action.

As far as it being universal, it appears to occur when your Sims live longer than they should (either through aging_off or The Elixer of Life). However, several people have reported getting this glitch without using either of those things.

It may or may not cause irrevocable harm to the family. It all depends on the patch which Maxis is working on - if there's a way to "upgrade", so to speak, v1.0 families to v1.1 without losing any data, then it shouldn't be a problem. However, Maxis may end up saying that any families from before the patch are a lost cause - personally I don't think they'd do this, as by the time the patch is (rumoured) to be released, early November, the game will have been out for 6 weeks.  I doubt telling people that they've lost the families and storylines they've accumulated during that time would be a huge PR coup for Maxis.

The annoying thing is, that Woohooing itself isn't affected. It's the automatic talking thing which happens when you tell two Sims to Relax or to Sit in Hot Tub.

However, there is apparently a way around this - if you go to a community lot, and tell one Sim to Try On clothes, and then, while they're in the booth, get the other sim to "WooHoo in public", you can still produce children (although more rarely).

The automatic talking, like at the dinner table, etc, is about the only thing that keeps their social meters up when I play (I.. uh... suck at keeping Sims happy). Where are you getting the news about the progress of the patch from? I should probably keep an eye out.

Oh, and I haven't experimented at all yet with community lots, so I didn't even know their was an option to "WooHoo in Public", but that is fantastic.  :)

Largely from thesims2.ea.com, on the BBS. But there's not much - Maxis themselves don't moderate the boards, but there is a feedback form if you have the bug (or any other for that matter).

Personally, I've always felt that the game places too much emphasis on the "Social" meter - I certainly don't need human contact every day to keep me happy..... :p

Ah, didn't check the BBS, just the news, which told me nothing.

I concur on the social aspect.  It also bugs me that you have to put in so much effort to keep friends.  I don't know about anyone else, but I don't have to call a friend every 3 days to keep from losing them.  That's probably one of the things that bothers me the most.

Winna: Posting on a dead cartoon message board also crushes your street cred.

Holy crap! I discovered some of the newer ships for JTL, the new ships are on the list along with the other ships you can build and own:
Souped up Rebel Transport.
The Imperial Shuttle.
Z95 Headhunter.
Droid Ship from Episode 1.
The Medical Frigate.
Star Destroyers!
TIE Opressor.
3 Hutt Fighters. (small, medium and large)
The YT-1300.
X-Wing.
Y-Wing.
B-Wing.
A-Wing.
The Corellian Corvette (Tantive IV like ship).
Escape Pods.
TIE Fighter (2 models, one for training I expect)
TIE Bomber.
TIE Interceptor.
TIE Advanced (Vader's TIE Fighter).
TIE Agressor.
VT-409.
'The Lady Luck' Model Cruiser (Only for players who have subscribed for around 6 months)

I expect the bigger capital ships may be floating guild halls in space with guns, only formed guilds could get and operate them. I don't know but this add on pack will not be as bad as the usual add on's we see. We have 10 space sectors, 2 new species and nice amount of new content (Some more Imperial and Rebel Weapons, proper flightsuits with helmets etc) as well as the ability to customise your own ship's part and colours and as well as actually living and chatting with other friends in the bigger ships like the Falcon. It's release date is the 27th of October, and is so on my Christmas list.

TIE Oppressor? TIE Agressor?

Great. As if we didn't have enough TIE varients already...

TIE Fighters, Bombers, Interceptors, Advanced/Avengers, Defenders, Hunters, Phantoms, Tanks, Scimiters, Hunters, Tie/D Droids, and probably more I can't think of right now...

But... STAR DESTROYERS? Totally, unbelievably, awesome. I doubt you'll be able to carry out orbital bombadment on planets, but it's a fun mental image.

Nix: I expect so.

A few of the capital ships will not be unplayable for the time being, they have to sort some system out with them. I think they should use my suggestion and make the Capital ships Guildhalls for space.

SOE will promise a new ship for every update in the future, I hope or LucasArts will give them a good reaming. Either of the two would be fine come to think of it. The rest of the ships you can pilot to high heaven and back.

Slacky: It's for ballence, all The Rebel's have there precious shielded hyperspace ready fighters, so why not a few Experimental TIE Models?

I doubt these would be common to get, you'd need an assload of faction points.

They updated SWG's for JTL's code, we SWG: Empire Divided non beta chaps get 25 new emotes and emote animations as well as some new clothing. Which is about bloody time.

One of the new loading screens!

Give it a good read, especially if you are an Imperial fan.

While most of the TIE models are pretty miserable, the Advenced and Defender models completly own the rebel ships, in just about all areas (B-Wings are probably more heavely armed/shielded, but what does that matter when they'll be taking all the hits?). The later model Imp ships simply outclass the rebs.

Slacky: Like I said, the Advanced and all will cost a huge amount of faction points, 20-30k if I am not mistaken (You get 20-60 factions points every faction mission) so there won't be Squadrons of them all over the place.

I hope they include the Death Star wreckage in the Yavin Sector as a POI, I'd go there.

In the last month, or so, the only game i've been playing is SimCity 3000, you would think that, by now i'd be in the year 3400. But no, there seems to be some problem with my computer when it comes to running this, and even at the highest speed it still takes about 30 minutes for a year to go by.

Anyway, the year is 2035 and the city has just recently expanded over the river in the past 20 years. Ever since then, the populance has boomed and land values have skyrocketed, the treasury is bringing in 300,000 Simoleans a year, and the city is struggling to spend it all, even with the slow passing of time.
A disaster nearly occurred which involved the cheap-assed mayor realising that if he pushes the already malfunctioning Nuclear power plants just a little bit more, he could replace them with Microwave power stations instead and save a few bucks, besides a few freaked out citizens the plan worked perfectly, We're now eagerly awaiting the arrival of Fusion power plants.
Mass transit, schools, police, hospitals, parks are all the best in the region. There are more subway lines than roads.

Demand for residential and commercial zones is still high, even with the populance at 1,100,000.

Finally, here's the overview.

That overly detailed description killed the necessary 20 minutes, now i can do something remotely worthwhile.  :p

Rage Dump: Nice city, I also played the game a lot. When you realize that if you place the parks in a specific way, pretty much all land values will be astronomical. At that point, you will have more money than you can spend. Weird time problem you have though - I've never seen that.

I'm playing Gothic II yet again, the only RPG where orcs are actually dangerous. I love this game, it's full of exploration and side-quests. And it's also much more challenging than most other RPGs. Any Gothic II players in here at all?

A few SWG Screenies, oh and some JTL info.

Apparently, another playable Ship will be the Firespray (Slave 1 type in others words) which will be as hard to get as the Mandalarin armour of everyones favourite Bounty Hunters (8 bits of Schematic scattered throughout the Galaxy)

The first two images are taken, my avatar watching a Player Live Event which was the best PVP Fighter of the FarStar server. Winner got over a million credits.

I've been getting into Zelda Wind Waker lately. Just finished the second dungeon, the forest one. Man that rules, one of the greatest dungeons ever! The whole vibe and atmosphere is amazing. Those butterfly/caterpillar things which shoot out their lava onto you; I found genuinely freaky as hell! I just wish the game would have gotten to this good stuff sooner. I was getting bored of this game before I even began, way too much set-up blah blah blah. The dungeons are the best bits, when you're alone with those horrible creatures...

  • Got my Xbox running Linux, for those of you who haven't been putting up with my crap in the chatroom about it.   :p
  • GTA:SA should arrive here on the 31st
  • Going to buy a wad of Xbox games this weekend, perhaps...

I've got another problem now too, seems now that my city takes a month to start pumping water after loading a game, usually about 300,000 people leave when the find out that there's no water. It's just about unplayable now.

I tried playing Sim City 2000, but all my buildings turned to those horrible brown structures, and there were riots. Most of the city burnt down, and I blew up the rest of it with the bulldozer except for the Mayor's house and the ten or so police stations surrounding it. The newspaper said something about the need for a fire station, but it was a bit late.
