Hmmm, so we may have a MoH that might beat the 4 years old Allied Assault?

I pirated StyleXP and downloaded the new update for my Xbox theme, so there are only 2 things on my computer that don't look like an Xbox- Trillian and iTunes.  Or maybe other programs, but I think those are the only ones with independent themes.

I am greatly anticipating the release of the new Zelda  :D It looks so sweet...it isn't cell shaded (not that I didn't like Wind Waker, it was awesome, but I'd like to see a game using the full potential of the GameCube) and it features Adult Link.  :D

I did several more things interesting today on SWG, I advanced the last skill of the Marksman pistol skills (70000 exp, that was a climb!) I discovered that Medics have to make there own Stimpacks and HAM wound repair packs and I finally located that damn Mos Entha Speeder Race Track. Though I never beat it, I was 50 seconds behind the last player. Anywho, here's some screenies of one of the hundreds of Point's of Interests in SWG.

This is the Larr's Homestead. Or was.

This was once the courtyard of the underground homestead, now filled with sand due to the many sandstorms Tatooine has.

I think there are the gravestones of Owen, Beru, Shimi, Shimi's husband (Forgot his name) his first wife and his brother who was killed in a landspeeder accident.

This is the entrance to the Homestead, now scorched by the fire the Stormtroopers left behind (Or blown up by Beru is you watched Troopers).

Now, SWG has some pretty good POI and some pretty bad. I rate this one 1-7, it could have been a lot better. For example, I never knew those were graves until I looked it up. There should be more fire damage, debris and a few broken moisture vapours and droids. Oh, and realisticly who'd bury Owen and Larrs? they're in the middle of the freaking Dune Sea! it'd be cooler to see there half burried charred Skeletons in the sand.

Oh, and this last screenie is very good. A Podracer, but if you look closer half of it has items from other things skillfully attached to it. Still, I loved this and thought this should have been a POI. It's located near Beggar's Canyon where the Mos Entha Swooper track is.

I'm trying the opposite. Getting a desktop environment on an Xbox  :p

Nurdy, are many of the players in SWG really zealous, take it too seriously? That's the first thing i expected from it as soon as i heard of the concept...
I wish i could just damn well play it myself to find out.  :p

Rage: I know it's the future but I can't imagine some stranger stopping off at this farm in the middle of nowhere and burying two charred skeletons.

As for the Gravestones, wound you know what they where?

Hehe, played a Burnout 3 demo when I went to preorder my 2nd copy of Halo 2 and Metroid Prime 2 at Best Buy. Slow-motion takedowns rock.

Anyways, anyone seen the new Halo 2 page? Too hard to decode...

Regarding the Gravestones:

Would it be that hard to imagine that Luke had burried his caretakers before he returned to Obi-Wan? Perhaps the family had their headstones already made. Like the Flanders.

*smashes things*

I also bought Empire Earth (at a very reasonable £9.99), I remember how much fun I had chargin in with some battle bots and watching with amusement as several knights tried in vain to get through the armour.

Nah, I think Luke left after seeing the Homestead burn. The Imps may have left something behind anyway.

There's also a burnt out Sandcrawler near Mos Eisley.

I'd imagine that Luke or Obi Wan were the ones who buried Owen and Beru. Do the sandstorm events actually happen or are they just imagined?

The Sandstorm's randomly happen, the planets each have different weather patterns. As for the burrying of corpses, you may be right but I still think the graves are generic.

Anywho, a tour around my little homestead in SWG. I live in a Village SE of Mos Eisley so I'm never far from the action. All objects are mine and have been placed where I wish them to be placed.

Have a glance around for my weapons rack.

I have no idea, it keeps on blabing about 'this product has not past the windows logo test'. StuartB has been very helpful with this problem and provided links to solutions, however I don't have the XP cd to uninstall directx with.

On topic: Star Wars battlefront does look like an amazingly fun game. To pass the time I've been playing Diablo 2 online (as people in #fc can testify). I now have a level 50 Barbarian that does 194 - 410 damage  :D

I found this for you - may or may not help. Doesn't seem to require the XP cd (unless I'm reading something wrong - which is a distinct possibility)
And it's probably something Stu's already suggested. Hope it helps though  :)

Sorry if I'm retreading ground Stuart B has already covered, but is there a "Continue Anyway" option when you're installing the drivers? If it's a WHQL message, and the one I'm thinking of, I'd just ignore it. Microsoft takes far too long to certify drivers, so they're usually a couple of releases behind.

However, if it's happening when you run the game, or in the DXDiag control panel, then that points to something more complicated.

Unfortunately there is no option to 'skip'. That is what ia so frustrating. I'll hopefully figure it out with some help with others though.

Coilette and CK: why would there be a WHQL thingy for DirectX 9.0c? It's Microsoft software!

The directx 9.0c installer file I downloaded was about 33.4 MB's, I believe I got it from here.
Although I did install it fresh with a slipstreamed XP & SP2 install...  :p

9.0c also comes with Battlefront, like it has that option after normal installation it says "blah blah blah needs DirectX9.0c to run, would you like to install DirectX 9.0c now?"
That's how I got 9.0c onto my system and I've have no problems what so ever. I seriously don;t know why it should be throwing up the WHQL malarky.

You'd be suprised.  ;) I've seen Microsoft Hardware stuff throw up the WHQL message in the past - to be honest I think it's silly - like a lot of things Microsoft, it causes people to worry unnecessarily about something completely trivial.

Of course, the biggy for that one is "This computer has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" - I wonder how many people have turned off their machines for good for fear of the police breaking down their door!  ;)

Coilette, that is indeed strange.  Does it happen when you're running the setup? What's the exact message?

Knight: it is the same as all WHQL messages, except there is no 'continue anyway button'. After I select 'stop installation' it comes up with a message saying 'this game requires 9.0c and will not be installed'

I'm trying out the link Faze suggested *crosses fingers*

I pre-ordered a copy of Everquest 2 last night, this game looks like much fun  :)

I'll admit to being a closet Sims 2 player as well.

Because, uh, I like building and stuff. Manly stuff like that. Yeah.   ;)

However, I've refused to play the game for a couple of weeks now due to the infamous (or maybe not) "Jumping Bug". That's the one where your characters "jump" out of interactions, and is theorised to be caused by overflowing the memory count (which has apparently been set as an unsigned byte).

So until Maxis produce the patch to fix this, my Sims will remain in limbo.

BTW, glad to hear Coilette fixed her problem. Sounds like a corrupted DirectX installation to me (sometimes I get fed up of Microsoft "integrating" stuff into their OS, like TCP/IP, DirectX, etc).

Due to being hugely poor at the moment, I can't sink any cash into the gaming delights offered by The Sims 2, Rome: Total War, or any of the others.

So, I've been playing through the classic LucasArts adventures on the insanely wonderful ScummVM

@Stu:Well no, all I had was the original DOS Transport Tycoon (that I bought ages ago) so that didn't work. So I tried to download the Deluxe 95 version (thinking it's not in the shops...). And then it didn't want to install! At which point I bounced off the walls!

Anyway, I have a slightly older TTD"Patch" that -does- work on the one upstairs, so when I want to re-live the good ol' days, I just fire that up, put the cheats in and go!  :)
I liked the look of OpenTTD, but I may as well wait till the sequal comes out.

I tried it again, it worked first time, how the bloody hell...!?!

Da, Kul!  :D
