Oh yes. Quite annoying. I couldn't see where the bloody tags were meant to be... I'm guessing it will get this will better/easier the more I play it though.

I can't wait another 2 1/2 weeks to get my hands on it again now...

Question: will Doom 3 and/or Half-Life 2 run (by which I mean give me a playable framerate at ultra-low detail and the worst possible resolution) with my pathetic GeForce 4 MX? It's some sort of crappy 32MB integrated GPU version. The rest of my PC isn't too laughable; 1 Gig of RAM, Athlon XP 2600+ 1.91 GHz. I can't justify- or afford, for that matter- a video card upgrade right now.

I doubt Doom 3 would run at an acceptable FPS. Half-Life 2 should be runnable; Valve have said in many interviews that their intention is to make the game ultra-scalable. However, I'd wait until there are some real-world tests for evidence.

Well I just got the latest issue of Edge today (a UK games magazine). Throughotu the magazines history they have only give ten out of ten to very few games. These games had to be considered exception. In this issue Half life 2 has entered a small group that includes Mario 64, Legend of Zelda Ocharina of time, Halo and one of the Gran Turismo'. Now I am not one to usually go by review but Edge has never steared me wrong yet.

Anywya my point is that this is a game that has got ten out of ten from a magazine who rarely awards such high marks (unlike some magazines who praise a game becuase it is popular).

Thanks for the advice. Luckily I was more excited about HL2, so that's kind of good news. But yeah, I'll wait until I know for sure- hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on a demo soon.

Best thing to do with Doom 3 is download the demo and give that a try. It's worth a shot, at least (I'm only running a Ti4600 and I can run that at Medium settings fairly well).

I was wondering could anyone fill me in on that Futuremark 3D Mark program thing, I downloaded the trial version/demo thing and ran the test but I was getting such a shitty framerate of ~1 FPS!!

Now, I thought I had built me a pretty top end machine but now I have the feeling my GFX card is holding it all back, a PNY GeForce FX 5600 256MB which was sent to me as a replacement for a broken Geforce 4 ti4200.

The rest: Athlon 64 3800+, 512MB's DRAM, 120GB 7200rpm HD, MSI mobo with all the bits and bobs.

Could it be the lack of cooling? Need a new SATA HD or RAM?

I ask because I'm currently NOT running all my games at high graphics and settings, and Doom III and Halo at surprisingly low levels...  :(

On the mission where you have to save "Slim" or whatever his name was and his girlfriend, I couldn't figure out where to pick up the gun, so I ran over all the bad guys with a police motorcycle.  Squishing a bunch of gang-bangers with an inline police bike is not my proudest moment, but I still managed to pass the mission.

While the city stuff is all pretty standard GTA fare, some of the real fun starts once you end up trapsing all over the countryside. Seriously, there's crazy slopes everywhere, and when you're hurtling down cliffs on a trail bike, swerving through woodlands whilst  trying to escape the police... your brain is in a very happy place. There's also much less orange (that's mostly around Los Santos, anywhere. San Fierro a lot cleaner).

And I'm sure it's been said before, but the Soundtrack's no where near as good as VC's. Still okay though. At least there's a classic rock station. And the german DJ for the house station is hilarious.      :D

Oh yes... and I enjoyed the mission where you steal a combine havester from a 'survivalist' compound a little too much...

weapon set 1: R1 R2 L1 R2 Left down right up, left down right up
weapon set 2: R1 R2 L1 R2 Left down right up, left down down left.
weapon set 3: R1 R2 L1 R2 left down right up, left down down down.

I like to mix up which one I use.

I got on the boat and I crossed into san fierro, but all the sudden I had 4 stars and got taken down like clockwork. Has anyone done that "Lifes a beach" mission where you have to dance. I kicked serious ass.

Apparantly if you cross into any of the "locked" cities you immediately get four stars.  That's less cheesy than that barricade between the islands in GTA:III.  I want to know what kind of heat they bring if you steal a plane from Los Santos Int'l.

I love Rez.  I'm seriously considdering buying a new PS2 just to play it.  Here's a great game synopsys of it:

Quote
Game Synopsis:

"There are a color, a form, and a motion in all sound."
The pleasure generating equipment named the game which can feel transformer feeling in the rhythm which comes on the contrary by the act a player "shoots", and it are "Rez."
A player can destroy an enemy and can sound sound. It is formed with the image from which the sound joins a rhythm and a new rhythm changes. It becomes the own groove of a player and is sublimated gradually to music.
We promises that the feeling which has not been felt until now can be experienced.
Play of new feeling can be experienced by powerful vibration.

Of engrish becomes power joy!
Pleasure making to at home PS2 equpping!

There's a really interesting article about the rise and fall of Nintendo, and it really does raise some very good points as to why Nintendo is unfortunately no longer top of the games. It pinpoints it's problems in detail... http://cube.ign.com/articles/561/561400p1.html

Not much (I scaled a fence and stole the non-wingless Dodo). Just 4 stars. I was actually expecting to be "pushed" back just like if you try to fly to the edges of the map in VC.

And I can't steal any of the aircraft parked at San Fierro airport.  :(

What's fun is that there's a no-fly zone out in the desert (which also covers the third city, for a time). SAM's.

The planes are a lot more fragile this time around. Clip a building and it's flame time! Ram into the ground, and goodnight, children!

Ive stolen a private jet and its very easy to fly. Their is a part of Los santos intl where you cna get in over the wall if you jump up on your car. There are 2 planes, a small one and a cool private jet. You get taken down by missles. But I have made it to LV.

I think that we're the niche that the article refers to. When Nintendo picked up the resident evil series, I was like, "Welcome to two years ago." The series may still be somewhat popular, but GTA is the big new "mature" game on the block. It's like that article said, Rockstar took a chance and pushed the hell out of something original. Nintendo really could have struck it big with Eternal Darkness had they actually promoted the fucking game.

No doubt about it, but when the avarage gamer (IE: the ones who don't post on message boards) sees it will they really think it's any different from "That game we played on PS1 back in the day."? I agree 100% with what the artilce is saying. When Nintendo cut the ties with many of its second parties, it was the worst thing it could have done. Now, Nintendo has to depend on itself for coming up with new ideas, which the 2nd parties used to do, and making the "Big games" like Zelda and Mario.

I've got to admit that article really hit me hard, and makes me quite worried about Nintendo's future. For now I'm content knowing they will have a new console out, but I fear it'll be the last nail in the coffin when it does worse than the Cube, and then Nintendo will turn into a Software company like Sega (and handheld, I don't see it dieing in that market for a while). That is my fear, and the article really puts things into perspective, detailing exactly what's gone wrong.

I think one of Nintendo's biggest mistakes in recent years was letting Rare go. I was so sad when that happened, because I couldn't wait for a Banjo-Threeie on the Cube. The sequal to Perfect Dark would have helped the Cube a lot, and there's so many other games the Cube lost out on as a result to letting Rare go, let alone any original game ideas Rare had...

I just have to wait it out, carry on supporting Nintendo, and hope my dream of playing Mario and Nintendo games with graphics as real in their own world, as our world is for us. I doubt that day will ever come, and if Nintendo turn into a software company, I doubt I'll even bother, because it wouldn't be the same playing it on anything other than a Nintendo system. I was happy when Sega died, because it meant I could play Sega games on the best hardware; Nintendo's...

Yeah I've heard about that as well. Apparently it's set in Liberty City but the area of land that you can explore is three times larger than that in GTA3 (or so I've heard). I might get it, although I haven't had the time to use my GBA for a while now.

If you ask me, making gta advance a top down game was shere laziness on Rockstars part. The game could have easily featured a simulated 3d environment using the GBAs mode 7 capibilties (like in Mario kart).

I guess they wanted to morph the classic top view GTAs with the new type of gameplay from 3, VC, and SA.

I guess we'll have to wait til the DS for a fully 3D GTA game. *hint hint nudge nudge*

This just in, Nintendo is releasing a platformer for the DS starring Peach where she must rescue Mario. I'm not sure what to think of this. Interesting concept though. Mario's been getting kidnapped alot the last few years, hasen't he? A bunch of other new games were shown as well.

SWG has a jetpack.

Speaking of which, have some screenies:

Someguy owns all these mineral miners, eep.

The other 3 screenshots were taken when me and 9 other guild members ventured forth with buffs, revive packs and an assload of Stimpacks into the Genesioan Biolab.

The hunt started off pretty well, but we were swamped by quick respawing cavern spiders, Kitniks and Droidka's. Cue Benny Hill retreat sequence with lops of incapacitation, running around and overworked Medics with slowly dwindling mind bars. We retreated outside and rebuffed (not allowed to buff up in Dungeons, which is a pain in the ass) and then ventured fourth once again.

I was knocked out halfway by a fucking client crash, by the time I logged back on I was unbuffed and by Guild was too far off to help me and my I was instantly killed by a human mercenary with a goddam knife.

I spent the other half of the hunt staring at my corpse until someguy who was part of another party came into the room, and told me I had been dead so long I couldn't be revived. Sod.

The hunt was a pretty bad one, the remaining group members all got to the bottom level and waited for the Ackley to respawn (One of the Monsters Obi-Wan and Anakin fought in Attack of The Clones) it never came and they got into a fight with an Imperial Guild that was also waiting down there.

Needless to say, they got bored and ran like hell from the bio lab when there buffs were about to run out.

We barely got any good loot as well. Sod.

After that, I sped across half of Yavin IV to have a look at the Dark Temple of Exar Kunn, which was pretty good. Had a hidden evil atmosphere.
