Time is so fast ... and again nominations. A month is gone. Let's see ... Gocad And this time - win! Jeremy He said he loves the way I do talk like - that's worth a nomination. And No. 3? It's always so hard to choose. Also I have headaches. *does write the names Juliet, FemJesse and homerjaysimpson on a paper - does close eyes and point at a name - does open eyes again* FemJesse

Would people just post their nominations and not comments, is was managed last month, I can't see why it is so hard to do this month. It makes the counters job far easier if he/she doesn't have to wade through all the spam

I just sort of thought of this in the Test thread, but not everyone reads those, and I know that this is really for nominations only, but here I go anyway because I didn't want to make a new thread about reform.
So reform.
I was thinking, theres a lot of bitching and controversy about the POTM. So I figure, why not do what pretty well every democratic nation does? Secret ballot.
We could have an email address that, at the end of each month, people email their nominations to. It would be open for the last 3 days of the month. Then the person in charge of the address would tabulate the results and start a poll using the top ten. Simple.
We could even have a thread that reminds people the address is open, the duty of which would go to a mod who could open and then close it after the reminder.
I also would suggest moving it down to 2 nominations per PEELer. The reasoning behind this would be that most people either throw their last vote to the wind or don't vote for 3. 2 is enough. I'd say one, but sometimes two people deserve it.
I'd volunteer to run the address unless someone else would rather that I not do it. Either way, I think it would be better than the current system, as it would probably cut down on the "VOTE FOR ME" crap and encourages others to vote for quality not popularity.

And the secret ballot plan has flaws too. Either everyone has to post their email address, or people could make up addresses and mail in extra nominations.
Not to mention the tally-keeper could cheat and pick candidates he prefers for the final 10, even if they didn't quite make the cut.

I agree with Fred, people need to take this less seriously, not more so. It's a bit of fun, and we have a set of rules which already give it the structure it needs.
The reason we get whingers is because for reasons best known to themselves, this little thing is somehow important to them.
Unfortunately we cannot de-pathetify their lives enough for them not to care how this turns out. Mores the pity.
