luna_m_lasercaptain is definitely a very interesting specimen, so she has my nomination one way or another.

As for the other two would-be nominations that I had planned (had it not been for Xan's "rule-change" >:|), they are Tachyon and coffeeBot.

Also, shouldn't that list of people we can't nominate be refreshed and empty? I mean there's already 12 people in there, and it's a new year, so...

No, the list is to contain the winners of the last twelve months. The calendar year is irrelevant.

How's that stupid at all? We wouldn't want the same few people winning over and over again.

Anyway, I haven't been PEELing very intensely this month so I'm not completely sure on who I'll be nomming. I guess I'll edit my choices in later or just blindly copy someone else if I get really lazy.

Not at all. The rule isn't to prevent people from winning more than once in the same calendar year, it's to create a buffer zone so that no one person can win numerous times in a short period.

Specifically, it prevents POTM from circulating between three or four individuals forever and nobody else getting a look-in, purely because people are used to voting for those individuals. Imagine a PEEL where POTM circulates endlessly between DrThunder, Xanfor, TheMadCapper, and winna. After a while, nobody would even bother with POTM anymore.

This way, there's a little variety in there. Which is a good thing. It keeps people interested, and people are motivated to be better posters so that they'll have a chance of being nominated and a chance of winning.

With about 50% of the voters voting regularly for their friends, POTM is imhO rather pointless anyway. Used to check some noms some time ago, and several were for individuals whose monthly comments were about a dozen of "Cool", "I agree", "Wooo-hooo", etc... .

Wether it circulates between 4 persons, or 12, is just a different quantity for the same problem. I considered POTM a rather nice forum poll. But -because of the mentioned reason- I do not bother about it any more.

2 - Heiny, it's a popularity contest, so popularity is important. But it is awarded for more than just that. Last month for example: Urchinlegging won basically because he finished his Futurama cast pic and it became internet famous. Or when I swapped AllEggs' head with that of the owl she was holding. Oh wait, that one didn't get me anything except the satisfaction of knowing she printed it out and put it on the wall in her workspace

Yes, but it's a record you're undeserving of in my opinion. It's a failing on the board's part that you've not been rewarded for your contributions more often. In fact, had you and Josh not been on this list of ineligible candidates this month, I'd have found myself agonising over which one of you to give one of my nominations to, and whether to not nominate AllEggs, or Spacefish. It would have been a tough choice.

I suppose that the list I posted was as much a reflection of my own internal bias as the nominations I make in any given month are. I picked four of the people I consider to be the most consistently deserving of POTM, for one reason or another. DrT usually manages to be pretty funny, Xanfor usually manages to be pretty wise, you usually manage to be pretty right, and winna has these flashes of pure and unadulterated genius. In between the bouts of what I can only assume is deliberate insanity, since every time I've spoken to him directly about things, he's proven to be an intelligent and insightful voice amidst the constant background babble of complete shit that seems to comprise much of the information flow in the universe.
