You may vote for each choice you support and you may change your choice. Poll is open for one day.

Multiples means: One PEELer may use multiple nominations for a single POTM candidate.

My vote:
3 votes; don't care if multiples are allowed or not.

I agree with the 3 votes, but am not too fond of multiple nominations.

3 votes, no multiples because it just doesn't represent the populous...

3 with multiples. If you honestly think only one poster is worthy one month then this way it can be reflected in how you vote.

Then you could also just make one nomination, it's not like you are forced to make 3 but max 3, right?

But just making one does not reflect the opinion that this particular person is as deserving as you think. It gives a nomination a value, but at the expense of other people who you might think should be nominated.

If we agree on 10 options on the poll, you need 5 candidate nominations just to get those 10 people with more than a couple votes. If we agree on <10 options on poll, like 7, then 3 candidate nominations would be fine. I still say no multiples. You could just get some newbies nominating themselves/bff 3 times and they'd make the poll.

Should self-nominations even be allowed though?
I'd say no.

Agreed. A couple friends who join PEEL though would still be able to nom each other 3 times, which is why I dislike multiple noms.

I don't like self-nominations, and have often argued against them.  I have not argued for a strict rule for this though... this, as with most things, was usually up to the discretion of who took the trouble of counting the nominations; which I didn't mind because the person crafting the poll was putting more effort into concluding the POTM than anyone else that month.

Randi: That's true too.

Which brings me to the question, should posters who for example joined in May be allowed to nominated for the April POTM?

If you look at the old threads about POTM rules and conventions, you'll notice that your question has popped up before.  It seems that there may have been some consensus, but it never held.  For the record, I don't think making a newbie rule will actually be enforced, and that's why I don't think we should have it.  I also don't think that it actually has much influence on the end result either.  Most new people are trying to figure out what POTM is, let alone participate in it their first week.

booze: I think so. They could have been stellar newbies as lemily33 was. I think only if they actually did do great work will they be recognized and possibly put on the poll. This of course, if we don't allow multiple noms. If we do that throws that idea out the window.

Oh sorry I misread that. No, I don't think they should be nominated for a month before they joined, that's not how PEELies work.

I mean nominating themselves for the past month before they joined.

Technically they don't know anything that took place in the past month.

New posters could have been lurking for over a month, making their nominations worthwhile. I say let them participate. Nobody should be allowed to nominate themselves.

Now I'm confused...booze do you mean nominating themselves before they joined PEEL, or nominating anyone altogether?

They shouldn't be able to nom themself either way. And others shouldn't be able to nom them for a month before they joined, obviously. But I don't see harm in them nominating others because as Xanfor said, they could have been lurking.

I mean, it's not likely this proposed noob would have enough quality posts in the 5 days after May starts to get enough nominations to get into the poll.

Unless it's Bianca.

Anyway, I think 3 nominations should be plenty, none for yourself.  I do think that if you want to nominate someone twice or thrice to try to assure their place on the poll, that's fine, they still would have to be voted winner by the populace.

I agree with Booze about noobs nominating, although I doubt that will happen often.

I can't remember the first time I voted in a POTM, I think it was maybe the 2nd or 3rd month I was here, and I went purely on the people I knew from #fc.

I gradually got into the board more and it went from there.

Three votes always seems enough, and I completely agree with disallowing self-noms. They're just the cries of desperate posters.

If you strongly feel like somebody should win, then don't use your other two nominations. There's never been a minimum amount of nominations that one person has to make; you could make just one. With the current/past rules, the best strategy if you strongly felt somebody should win was just nominating them and nobody else. A nomination to another just makes it less likely that your preferred choice will make the poll. I feel like that speaks more volumes than nominating the same person three times. Doing the latter just seems fickle and on par with self-nominating to me.
