Shouldn't there be a rule about how long someone has been posting here before being eligible to win POTM?

I mean last month SpaceGoldfish fromWazn won with only being here for half a month. Which is a bit short I think.
But now Danny nominated pumpkinpie who only registered the last day of August in the last few hours as well.

So I really think there should be a minimum amount of day you have to be registered.

Why is he nominating her, should be the question at hand. Because if it's just because she's new and didn't post something stupid within those 24 hours... well yeah, not really a good reason.

So surely that means being the best poster for the whole month, not making one great post.

And yeah, I would really love to see what post(s) Danny is actually nominating her for. I can't find any post from August that really screams OMG THAT IS AN AWESOME POST. Nothing bad, surely. But nothing that deserves being nominated for a whole month worth of other people's posts.

Whether you make one awesome post or lots of good -ish ones, you still win POTM for posts. So if you post in that month, you should be able to receive a nomination.

I side with tnuk on this one.  Whether registered all month or one hour, as long as one post is in the month being nominated/voted on, you should be eligible for Poster of the Month.  SpaceGoldfish and her win (and subsequent voters' remorse) aside, I don't see it really happening too often.  If pumpkinpie were to get on the poll, and eventually win, so be it. If repeat winners were outright banned, this would almost have had to happen by now, there just aren't enough old guard posters left to shun all these new people completely.

Agreed, SpaceMaN. I don't think there's a problem with nominating a poster who hasn't been around all month, as long as the posts he or she has made are quality stuff.

The fact that there is even a thing each month has always seemed weird to me. I always find it hard to nominate anybody specifically because so many people can make so many great posts within an hour, a day, a month, a year... Sure, it's great that we offer recognition for great posters, but why can that not be done simply with an "I agree" or "that was hilarious, I just spat mushroom soup in my mother's face" or "wow, how insightful" while also contributing to whatever is going on in a thread. Making all these excess threads about nominating and voting and then complaining about who should get nominated or voted for... Either we have the things or we don't, if you're going to be so pedantic about silly internet fun you should probably go become president or an English professor or something and leave relaxation time to the people who know how to do it properly.

It occurs to me that, if the rest of PEEL had at one point repudiated the character of every poster under the age of eighteen, and mandated that this person never be allowed to win PotM...well, we'd have a hell of a lot fewer nominees to choose from. Lord knows I was a pain in the ass when I first joined PEEL--and you yourself joined as a mere young'un, tnuk, did you not? And yet we have both risen above our initial posting suckitude to become tolerated (in my case) and feared and respected (in your case) members of this online community!

My point is that we should be fair and give SGB time to improve; it could happen.

The best way to get TNUK to back off would be to filter your posts better. Don't just write any irrelevent thing that pops into your head. Just don't try to fight it. TNUK has been here a long time and I've seen him destroy better posters than you guys.

Nah. If I see somebody being stupid and annoying, I'm likely to step in. It's just that the only people being intolerably thick of late are you and SGB. You'll notice if you comb through the last three or four pages of my post history that I'll argue with pretty much anybody. It's just that some people take it better than others.

When there's nobody who I think I probably ought to argue with, I do calm down (and have even been known to say nice things to people on occasion).
