From the behind the scenes thing on Caddyshack:

"Rodney's first day shooting, the director yells "Action!" and he just stands there.  He didn't even know "Action!" meant start your scene."

So that got him into films.

Also, Bill Murray in his groundbreaking role.

Chevy Chase's best performance.  Ted Knight.  Music by Kenny Loggins.

edit: I suppose a lot of the old humor might be lost on a younger generation.  Not saying that would be the case with Caddyshack, but it's possible.

As much as I agree that Caddyshack is an awesome movie we're getting pretty far off topic. Seriously SpaceMaN call Kenny Loggins cause you're in the Danger Zone!

Sorry MaN I grew up in the era of Adam Sandler does stupid crap to win the uptight bitch at the end of the movie, as well as a time of guys being prettier than girls.

I'd still take Super Hans over BirthdayClown any day, given that the two aren't the same person.

He's actually made some valid points in some threads, and has been nice enough to wish people a happy bday or peeliversary. I'd hate to see this discussion turn into a "you're either with us or against us" thing because I like you all and think of you all as my friends and I can only hope you feel the same way :)

Thanks Randi, you’ve always struck me as fair and balanced. Despite being here longer than most, you don't seem to have this clique mentality that seems quite prevalent on this forum or come across as smug and condescending towards the noobs . This forum would be a far better place if more people were like Futurefreak or Super Hans. I would have nominated you but I forgot and I am too lazy to edit.

I’d also recommend Caddyshack, far better than any Adam Sandler movie IMO but it’s more male humour orientated than Adam Dandler movies so it may not be your bag. Although I do remember you once saying that you were a gay guy trapped in a woman’s body so maybe you would like it.

I really, really think you're mistaken about this "clique" mentality concept. People tend to hang out with people they like, and support people they like, and associate with people they like. And it is only ordinary human nature (remember, all interpersonal interaction is subject to the twisted, yet easily understandable influences of human nature) to be on the defensive when somebody new interrupts the status quo. In refusing to understand that your obstinate attitude is unpleasant to others, you are contributing to their strong dislike of you. It does not matter that you have not done anything "wrong" or "against the rules," what matters is that you refuse to understand that your behavior grates severely upon the patience of many people who were here before you, and all but the most polite of them are not loathe to admit this fact. You can continue to insist that you are in the right, remain technically correct, and have people persist in treating you like common, conceited internet troll -- or you can acknowledge the effect your actions are having (and all actions have effects), change them, and become respected and well-liked.

You won't be the first to have done so; neither will you be the last.

I really respect you Xanfor, but cliques do form. I've felt a bit outcast sometimes at PEEL meets because I'm not part of a specific group, even if we're all from PEEL. There's nothing to say about it really, positive or negative, but it happens. If this place is a real "community" which I intend to show through my writing, it's only natural that groups on such a big forum would form, as you mentioned.

I'm glad you see me that way, Super Hans. I was welcomed with open arms when I was a "n00b" and I'd just like to give some of that back, given that I haven't really seen any post of yours that was so incredibly provoking that it would merit otherwise...hopefully you're not BC tricking me though :/ lol.

Yeah I grew up with Adam Sandler movies that I really liked at the time, but I'm not really a fan of them now or anything. I'm loving the 80s movies now. Although I still really really like Zoolander :D

Didn't realize you have also being here over a decade FYP. Me Sexist? Nah, I still thought Randi was cool even when I thought she was a guy which was for a good while, finding out that he had boobs was probably a bonus though.

How am I really, really mistaken exactly? I am aware of why cliques exist and how they are part of human nature and why they behave the way they do. Not really sure how justifying why cliques exist and behave the way they do proves I am wrong to believe there is a clique mentality with certain members on this board.

I'd argue that the cliques on PEEL don't have as strong ties as suggested, or that even though they do exist, they tend to not persist for very long.  The PEEL communal dichotomy is very fluid and changes somewhere within the range of 3 to 6 months on average.  Furthermore, the cliques you claim to encounter aren't actually cliques at all.  They're more like events, where different people, who often argue between themselves, found a common ground in attacking you and defending each other.  Although this certainly promotes the veil of a group mentality, and works in much the same way, these entities are hardly tied together strongly enough to consider them a clique.

Actually, a lot of my doctoral thesis in sociology is based on experimentation with the PEEL group, because it represents a changing and diverse social ecosystem that can be influenced by many factors and variables on a whim.

You are using the word "cliques" in its negative sense, and imagining an intentionally exclusive-natured mentality among some members of the board. That is what I do not see. There are groups of like-minded individuals, yes, but nothing more overt than you should be accustomed to handling if you've ever dealt other members of the human species in a social setting before.

I understand why my attitude is unpleasant to some but I also understand that it says more about them than it does about me.

You admit that your attitude says something about you, but ignore it because the attitude of other people says more? That's like kicking a rock and complaining that your foot hurts, but then justifying how you're not responsible, because the pain says more about the hardness of the rock than your action of kicking it.

Quote
Well as long as I am technically correct I don't mind all that as being technically correct is the best kind of correct.

In comedy, yes. In humor, certainly. In jest, of course! In reality... You'll survive, but only the same way you succeeded: technically.

I never said you needed to change, I said that you need to change your behavior. I don't know enough about you to make a judgement about your person, and it would not be my place to do so if did. Nevertheless, all I am offering is my advice. I would like you to accept it, or at least use it to better your life and relationships (both online and for real).

Some people spend years of their lives learning these things. And experience is cruel.

Bad noobs on the doorstep. I couldn't take one more step. I can't remember if I cried when I read their stupid diatribes but something touched me deep inside. The day the PEELs, died.

And we were singing...
"Why, why, the PEELocalypse nigh,
are posts submitted and transmitted with such empty replies?"
Do our members and friends have no resources whereby,
they can fix the way things have gone awry...
How can we fix the way things have gone awry?

Did you answer the CAPTCHA question,
when joining in the proper progression?
You must have joined after PEEL 2.
And did you accept the terms of use,
must you insist on being obtuse?
Really, it's not all about you...

Well, I know that you have got your opinions,
and us regulars have got our minions.
We've all got our little quirks,
that's how a community works!

We can all be very obnoxious it's true,
there's no need to fight over somebody new.
When did this forum become a zoo?
The day, the PEELs, died.

When we were singing,
"Why, why, the PEELocalypse nigh,
are posts submitted and transmitted with such empty replies?"
Do our members and friends have no resources whereby,
they can fix the way things have gone awry?
How can we fix the way things have gone awry?

Now more than ten years, we've been posting in threads,
when we could have been having lives instead.
Why did it have to end so soon?
All this time, spent with geeks and nerds,
gallivanting about with our fancy words,
and a fondness, for a science-fiction cartoon.

But then the fanbase began to disconnect,
we all forgot our mutual respect.
The forum went offline;
To UnPEEL we were inclined!
And while Gopher was kind enough to lend a home,
to us users of Firefox, Opera, and Chrome,
I spent my time ranting in the angry dome,
the day, the PEELs, died.

And I was singing,
"Why, why, the PEELocalypse nigh,
are posts submitted and transmitted with such empty replies?"
Do our members and friends have no resources whereby,
they can fix the way things have gone awry?
How can we fix the way things have gone awry?

So write and edit, then edit some more,
or double post again if you've done it before.
We have the test thread for advanced trolling...
Spamming elsewhere is quite forbidden,
moderators can make such posts quite hidden,
or wield the banstick. Trust me, you won't feel a thing.

But this is not the smart way to act,
it's really quite stupid, I admit it, in fact.
We all welcome our new members,
so long as they remember:
That the views of others are not always wrong,
and flame wars are something you should not prolong.
Don't ever, ever burst into song,
unless, the PEELs, die.

In which case you can sing,
"Why, why, the PEELocalypse nigh,
are posts submitted and transmitted with such empty replies?"
Do our members and friends have no resources whereby,
they can fix the way things have gone awry?
How can we fix the way things have gone awry?

In this verse, I'll try to explain,
this Poster of the Month fiasco again,
if you'll just hear me through.
You post nominations like this: one two three!
Click "Preview," if you want to see,
or check if your formatting code is astrew.

And once you have posted, that's the end of the line,
you got nothing to do but wait for the time,
when voting begins hard and fast,
for notoriety that is sure to last!
For once the Poster of the Month is finally selected,
there won't be a PEELer around not profoundly affected.
Didn't you see how we were all connected,
the day, the PEELs, died?

When we were singing,
"Why, why, the PEELocalypse nigh,
are posts submitted and transmitted with such empty replies?"
Do our members and friends have no resources whereby,
they can fix the way things have gone awry?
How can we fix the way things have gone awry?

I met an engineer named for a spice,
and asked her to tell me something nice...
But she could not even spare a quote.
I went down to the shippy threads,
where Pedro La Loco had threatened me dead,
but the shippers had no more passion to devote...

And in off-topic, conversation slowed,
the camaraderie of PEEL began to corrode.
Nobody tried to stop it.
The forum was about to cop it.
And the posters I admire most:
(I won't list them here, don't want to boast),
they all said "adios,"
the day, the PEELs, died.

And they were singing,
"Why, why, the PEELocalypse nigh,
are posts submitted and transmitted with such empty replies?"
Do our members and friends have no resources whereby,
they can fix the way things have gone awry?
How can we fix the way things have gone awry?

And we were singing,
"Why, why, the PEELocalypse nigh,
