But that would put DaveMason in the N.I.T. when he very well could win the real tournament.

Okay, how 'bout having an N.I.T. with the last 32 POTM winners. That gives the first 51 winners automatic entry into the real tourney. Then you take the Elite 8 of the N.I.T. and let them into the real tourney. That's 59. Then you can have 5 wildcards.   
Easy peasy.   

You can do this in the near future and wait 'til March to do the big one, that way people won't get tired of all the polls.
 

There has 82 POTM winners. We could wait to do it until September to finish the 7th year of POTM, which would include July and August's winners and give us a total of 84. 54 randomly selected winners will advance to the "first round", whilst the remaining 30 will battle for the final 10 spots through 10 3-way polls, with the winners of those polls going through. Ranking will be random from there, with everything going on as a 64 knockout tourney. Thoughts?

Ya, I'm counting Sil, who will obviously win this month.
How will you randomly select them, draw names out of a hat? I would say you should pick the 30 crappiest POTM winners for those polls, otherwise you run the risk of having 2 or 3 awesome people competing for the same spot. Just go through the list and pick your 30 least favorite POTM winners.
