I figured it might have happened before.  And do we see cellery around that often these days?  Common people, we gotta get 'em hooked before we can just give 'em a POTM.
"hook(ed)" nice hint   :p

Hey, that's great idea!

I propose that from now on no one shall become POTM unless he has signed up at least your years ago and has no less than 7000 posts.

What?   :p

I go inactive for a few months and one of my usual noms is actually a serious contender in the poll? I should stay out of touch more often.

Hey, Gopher, where have you been? Hibernation or did you find something more interesting in real life?

I've been around. For a while my social life was more active than usual, but it was an abberation, and it did not last long. I just haven't been spending my free time on the web lately, for some reason. My liesure activies wax and wane, and at the moment internet forums are waning and gaming is waxing. I think I've already spent more time in 2007 playing video games than I did in all of 2006; first with Gears, then Viva, and now GHII. No hope for the near future, either, with the games coming out this year - most notably, Halo 3 and Forza 2.

Still alive, though, and I don't think I've gone more than a month, tops 45 days, without making at least one post  :)

why is it that every month there are exactly 2 people who are in a draw?
and some people are in the poll every month and always only get about 1 or 2 votes  :p

Maybe I'm from the wrong country or something, but can someone tell me what a "meme" is?  If it means posting pictures of your boobs then I'm in.  How about everyone with camera phones just give me your number and I'll text it to you instead.  Perhaps one with me in the bathtub surrounded by bubbles.

A meme is an idea that spreads like a virus. There was a great issue of Global Frequency by Warren Ellis that had an alien meme that took over the minds of a whole city. It was great. It was also one of the central ideas in the book Snow Crash. It was also great.

However, the bastardized internet version is just a running gag that goes on over multiple sites.

A meme is just an abstract concept which basically treats ideas as if they are entities which reproduce and evolve. A song that gets stuck in people's heads is a successful meme, but so are multi-level marketing and catholicism. It's a useful metaphor, basically, but not really a concrete science.

Recently the term meme has entered the popular culture, usualy refering to short media elements, originally independent pieces of a viral nature but the execubots are struggling to redefine it to include polished, corporate-engineered microshows and the like, which differ in that they are promoted through a more traditional advertising model, where their viral cousins are spread almost exclusively through link-sharing between viewers.

[edit]hmm. Too much answer, and too slow.[/edit]

Way more meme info than you probably want to know..

No voting just to tie up the poll from me this month.  I threw away my vote on ~FazeShift~.

See, another example of what happens if you neglect your internet acquaintances in favor for real ones ;-)

Oh, you misunderstand; I was saying that my social life was not the main thing keeping me away, I've just been spending most of my free time on the 360 instead of the PC.
