2. Older posters (Nix, Capper, Fishy, et al.) tend to garner a lot of respect and support among easily led and impressionable newbies within their first month.
3. POTM is enthusiastically supported by newbies.
4. Once the poll begins, older members are among the first to lay down the direction the thread heads in. After the first ten votes or so, the sheep factor takes effect.
5. Voting for newer posters tends to be (unfairly) frowned on by certain people. I'll name no names, but they're usually the ones who use the FAQ's inappropriately, and love to call out "SPAM" for no reason.
6. Older posters would be seen to "deserve" the POTM as it rolled around to their PEELiversary.
7. PEEL won't be around past 2006, I predict. Therefore, these trends instead of being distorted by time, should hold.

That's why, Mr.MastoadonFarm. That's why. It's perhaps cynical or pessimistic to view things in this way, but PEEL is fuelled partly by cynicism.

You could have the POTM Champions Trophy instead. Past winners are divided into heats until 10 finalists are sorted out for a final poll to see who is the most popular PEELer of all time...(!)

Now that would be egotistical.

Good call.
I demand that, as at least a foot note, that this be mentioned, and we try to pursuade people to vote for  who they want to win, not thier favourite of the two highest pollers.

Wouldn't it be great to see 3, or even 4-way potential winners?

FishyJoe, I've loved you ever since you warmly welcomed me in the day I joined.

And of course by "FishyJoe" I meant germanfryfan.

Well hey, I've garnered a lot of respect from new people too. It's all the old regulars like Capper who don't like me. Look at the nominations thread, then see how many of those were from people who signed up in 2004. Most of the other ones were from people who signed up in 2003(with the exception of Spice Weasel who's been around since the dawn of time).

Jicannon: Yeah, I know. Maybe I'm the voice of the new generation? No, that sounds stupid.

Note: After counting, I actually got more nominations from people who signed up in 2003 than 2004! 7 from 2004 users, 8 from 2003 users. A lot were Australian. Of the other possible years, I got two from each year. 2002(Spiff and eggsandwich), 2001(Thunder and TNUK), and 2000(Spice Weasel and slimmy). Man, while I'm still hated by the old regulars, that still feels like diversity to me.

See my point number 4. You may have my respect, you may even have the respect of others I respect (good luck finding them , there aren't very many at all). You do not, however, stand a chance of ingratiating yourself into the hardcore of old-oldskool PEELers.

Myself, I think of the year I joined as the peak of PEEL - in terms of the speed the board moved, the post quality, the new member quality, etc. These guys... they think of the day before the board started as the peak of PEEL. You'll never win their hearts unless you're iliketowankalot. Now there was a guy who stuck brought people together.

What, TMC hates new posters? Here's a few posters from 2003 and 2004 that I think are just fine -

GermanfryFan
Mikey
Termos
MastodonFarm
Jicannon
YLB
SlackJawedMoron
Ooy
MOle

That's just from the last page of this thread. (Don't freak if your name's not on the list, I didn't bother to look at every single usernme or anything)

Thing is if yer new that means we don't know you well. So if all you do is piss and moan about idiotic stuff like your parents (who have provided your every need for X number of years) making you go to bed, then guess what? That's all that we're going to know you as. The Whiney One.

And TNUK... you forgot to mention that demographically the veteran peelers are chronologically older. Not that that is true in every case, but I'm sure it works as a broad general rule. So maybe us crotchety 20-somethings who've been around 4 years just aren't impressed with the same stuff anymore.

edited again for TNUK - New peelers can certainly join the "inner circle". It's happened before... Femjesse for example.

Maybe I've just got a skewed perspective. What with the "inner circle" being someplace I can never go.

As for the demographics... Hmmm. Forgot about that.

The sad thing about this board, is some of the n00bz or whatever, don't get respect, simply because, they are children. If Y_L_B, for example, was 15 years older, she may have alot more people respecting her right now, she may also have a PotM. She is an awesome person, but, the fact that she's young, make, in some people's mind, her posts mean less. I don't know for sure, but it's just a 14 year old n00b's educated guess, which brings me to, if TNUK said this, which he wouldn't, but if he did, would it mean any more than it does from me?

I joined a postal2 board awhile ago, about a year ago, before I knew the rules of messege boards. I flamed people, I trolled, I created multiple threads for a worthless, and already done topic, horrible spelling/grammar, I was the superfry(to the 100th power) of that board, but there was a small amount of adults, who still respected me because I told them I was 24.

Incorrect, and I can prove it.  For example, I believe aslate was under 15 when he joined, but you would never know from his behavior.  Hawk was like 11 when he joined, and he overcame his youth and his lackluster English skills to get respect.  Speli is the lovely PEEL jester, and he was 13 or so when he joined.

Just because you're young and don't get any respect, don't believe that makes it true.  The reason why it takes a while for newer posters to get "in" is because, online, it generally takes longer to know people.  Bitching about it won't help.

No. TNUK is neither a respected member, or a member in good standing with the "inner circle". His opinions are not always considered with due care... he is misquoted frequently... his posts are not always read properly and thoroughly, and he has a bad haircut.

In case you think that was sarcasm, it's all true. Here, I probably have less influence than you. Among TNUK News subscribers though, it's another story.

Edit: And lots of people have conveniently forgotten that the original AGI was his idea.

Are you talking about something that happened in the chatroom or something?

Or is this about your getting banned over being such a profane boor when you get wound up?

I always kind of figured you WERE on the "inner circle", because you happen to contribute something to our better threads, when you're not trying to impress folks with your "creative cursing Peelie" skills.

More like the Abortion Thread. Too lazy to link.

I'm more or less over that. I'm posting again, which is what matters. I'm also not getting any "hate posts" at the moment. Which is a plus.

Well, thanks. I feel absurdly honoured... and I realise that the swearing gets tedious, so I've cut down on it a bit. Except in the rant thread. It's meant to be het-up in there.

The Inner Cricle: They're like the Freemasons...also they wrote the "Bad Boys" song from COPS.  Also, anyone who's starred in a PEELody.

What I really meant to post about was whether or not we have a winner.  By the middle of the last page, people were declaring TLL the winner, but now it appears to be a dead heat.  I'd reach back four years and make a joke about hanging chads and absentee ballots, but that wasn't funny then and it isn't funny now.

Funny story: My brother signed up shortly after I did, and then got bored of posting... but he still shows up for a lot of the polls.

Apparantly you can tell who voted in what poll if you're a moderator. So the moderators will probably have seen his username about a bit.

Edit: Come to think of it, I'm going to have to try and pry his password from him... this could be fun.

OK, shit.  Wait.  I've been gone all day, but last I checked, people were congratulating Daniela for winning.  It seems like you mods really dropped the ball on this one.  Can you just declare her the winner, or something?  This has gone on too long.  It had gone on too long two days ago.

I don't care if I lose; I got drunk tonight when I promised myself I wouldn't, so I don't feel like I deserve it.  I vote Daniela; God knows she deserves it after all this time, and let's get on with our lives.  Close the thread before I wake up tomorrow pissed off and belligerent.

To be honest, I don't think people care enough to do that anyway, whether they're able to or not.

Eggsy and TLL both deserve to be out-front in this poll, they're both great posters.  Congratulations to Daniela, and good luck to Eggsy for next month.
