What are the odds, three of the people from the committee all in this category. Not that you guys didn't have a fantastic year though! Please don't hurt me. I think next year we need some nobodies to be on the committee so they won't be in the running for any categories. Yes I know how stupid that sounded, what of it?

Indeed, everyone who doesn't nominate shouldn't complain about the candidates up for votes. Likewise as no one who doesn't vote shouldn't complain about the upcoming winners.

It would say something about how this board runs, anyway.

Yeah. I agree with most of what tnuk, Bend-err, and Nutmeg1729 said, just to throw my two cents in. The council used to arbitrarily pick the nominees for the awards, and a few years back we switched to PEEL nominating the nominees. This of course makes more works for PEELers, but I can't see how this system is not less fair... everyone has equal possibility to become a nominee... Furthermore, the council this year was willing to do open nominations... they also opted to have people nominate via email. So hypothetically, if you wanted to influence who became a nominee, you certainly had more than your share of room to do so.... Hypothetically, you could have even campaigned to get yourself on some of the ballots. I also feel that the council did a bang up job on letting people know that the PEELies were going on, harrassing me on several occasions even. They've also done a good job so far in setting reasonable deadlines and meeting them in a timely manner, which is really quite nice.

Yes I will, already bought my flight to Texas and a new shine axe But yeah, if any of use would post in On-Topic regularly I am sure we would have let people know there too.

Even if you do branch out to Ontopic, how are the people who only post in General though supposed to know who any of us are? I think Maz made this point a while back if I'm not mistaken.
The PEELies is an offtopic thing, I don't see it wrong including mostly offtopic stuff, but if you make it an effort to "get out the vote" on other parts of the board there might be some backlash...

As I just said in the POTM thread. If they wanted to do any award stuff surely they'd come up with it themselves and surely no one would stop them from doing so.

There's no cheating going on.
Did anyone suggest there was? There's no unfairness, just some tweaking of the results when there was multiple people for the 5th position in the poll which was agreed on by all.
With posts like these, I can see how some may be paranoid about this year's PEELies. Also, I didn't think about this, but if any of you are on future secret councils, perhaps you should branch out your advertisement campaign to other boards like general discussion.
When I was on the Council, I made an effort to post in the big threads of GD and Fan Art/Fiction regularly to alert them of the awards. And we got a lot of them to actually participate in the awards. It did help that we had some on-topic awards. But, I agree, for the most part on-topic'ers won't know any of who is on these polls.

No, this post contains a linked picture of a "Captain Obvious: Faster than the speed of stupid". Yes, I didn't get that detailed because I thought it would be... Oh, I see what you did there!
