I voted for totalnerduk.  On top of making lots of ridiculous stuff that people enjoyed, arguing endlessly about whether the universe was cyclical or not, he also ended up doing the awards ceremony for the entire year.  Ok... so that last one didn't actually take place in 2010... but really I just voted for him because of the super liminal messages contained in this thread. :shifty:

What are the odds, three of the people from the committee all in this category.

Not that you guys didn't have a fantastic year though! Please don't hurt me. :shifty:

I think next year we need some nobodies to be on the committee so they won't be in the running for any categories. Yes I know how stupid that sounded, what of it?

Looking at all these nominations, I find it difficult to believe any one nominated other than the few who are showing up on every poll.

Oh well

Oh well

If you'd made nominations, you would have been excercising your power to make a difference, and thus would have earned the right to complain about the results. Sadly for you, you didn't do this. You are voluntarily disenfranchised and therefore have waived in perpetuity your right to an opinion on the matter. So stfu and vote. :p

Indeed, everyone who doesn't nominate shouldn't complain about the candidates up for votes.
Likewise as no one who doesn't vote shouldn't complain about the upcoming winners.

There's no cheating going on. These are as people nominated. Some people pop up more than other's because they're more active. If you post four times a year you're hardly gonna be remembered enough...

Yeah.  I agree with most of what tnuk, Bend-err, and Nutmeg1729 said, just to throw my two cents in.  The council used to arbitrarily pick the nominees for the awards, and a few years back we switched to PEEL nominating the nominees.  This of course makes more works for PEELers, but I can't see how this system is not less fair... everyone has equal possibility to become a nominee... Furthermore, the council this year was willing to do open nominations... they also opted to have people nominate via email.  So hypothetically, if you wanted to influence who became a nominee, you certainly had more than your share of room to do so....  Hypothetically, you could have even campaigned to get yourself on some of the ballots.  I also feel that the council did a bang up job on letting people know that the PEELies were going on, harrassing me on several occasions even.  They've also done a good job so far in setting reasonable deadlines and meeting them in a timely manner, which is really quite nice.

That's because we're awesome.

I know it seems funny a lot of the time, but winna is right. If you're gonna complain that the people you think should be on there aren't on there, then you should have nominated. A lot of the people on these polls got through by a margin of as little as one post.

There's no unfairness, just some tweaking of the results when there was multiple people for the 5th position in the poll which was agreed on by all.

For future reference.  You're not supposed to tell people you actually did any tweaking.  It's supposed to be a secret. :)

Also, I didn't think about this, but if any of you are on future secret councils, perhaps you should branch out your advertisement campaign to other boards like general discussion.  I don't know that you didn't do that, because I haven't been there in awhile.  Well, except the other few days when I was trying to start problems on the board.

Also, I have voted for most of the awards now Bend-err, thanks for the harassment. :)

Even if you do branch out to Ontopic, how are the people who only post in General though supposed to know who any of us are? I think Maz made this point a while back if I'm not mistaken.

The PEELies is an offtopic thing, I don't see it wrong including mostly offtopic stuff, but if you make it an effort to "get out the vote" on other parts of the board there might be some backlash...

As I just said in the POTM thread. If they wanted to do any award stuff surely they'd come up with it themselves and surely no one would stop them from doing so.

I'll agree with that.  However, it became apparent to me recently with a post that at least one person might have gotten slightly more involved if they'd have known about it before hand.  However, this is just my perception and I could be totally wrong.  I'm also in no way detracting from the fact that I believe that you all did a swell job in the grand scheme of things, but merely suggesting something minute that would make it even better in the future.

Did anyone suggest there was?

With posts like these, I can see how some may be paranoid about this year's PEELies.

When I was on the Council, I made an effort to post in the big threads of GD and Fan Art/Fiction regularly to alert them of the awards. And we got a lot of them to actually participate in the awards. It did help that we had some on-topic awards. But, I agree, for the most part on-topic'ers won't know any of who is on these polls.

Best Peeler 2010 – Presented by Bend-err
With 11,713 registered users, yet surely way less active ones, it is not easy to decided who was the best of the last year. How best-ness is measured is also a question often discussed and seldom agreed upon. So come up with your own definition of what you admire most in a PEELer in the last year so only one can survive as NUMBER ONE!
