And finally...
Best Corrupt Despot Campaign
eh? Isn't there already an annual award for this - the corrupt despot title itself?
But tnuk if we have this PEELie you won't throw a fit if no one votes for the hat will you?

I fully expect not to receive a single nomination. I am no longer under any illusions as to what people think of me, my hat, my campaign art, and my posts.
Hmmmm... what about "Most likely to be arrested on a morals charge".

Seconded.

Also, I like Least in Touch with Reality. Good idea.
by "obvious win" I didn't mean the winner was obvious, I just meant the categories were obviously good, even essential, ones.

I liked your breakdown, kinda fit with most of what I was thinking.
I still like Tay Zonday (most likely to be an internet celebrity), POTMOTY (though POTM has kinda fallen apart), and Least in Touch with Reality.
I agree with Masty on everything regarding Tnuk's proposed awards and would add that Least In Touch with Reality is a great idea.
I would also suggest a couple of less positive ones, just because they're fun. Such as:
  • Worst Poster
  • Shittiest Posting Gimmick
  • Worst Avatar
  • Easily trolled

Also, please no statistics based awards. It will only force people (me) to shitpost more.

Y'know, I liked the "negative" suggestions you made, but there are people who wouldn't take it in the spirit of fun. So it's probably not a good idea overall.

To me I think 15 categories is very limiting but I do think we need to have less than 50 (obviously).

Dumbass. Read this thread.

Since there are few actually new ideas how about a category for Avatar makers. They are the unappreciated and underrated masters of this board.

 Suuuure. And whilst we're at it, why don't we pay you?
Quote
Also, I don't think we should combine artist and fictionist. That limits the nominees for these even more.

Fanart and fanfiction are 90% shite anyway.

Quote
One last thing. What if we make it so that one person can't win the same category for 2 or 3 years in a row. And make it so that specific categories (like best avatar) can't win twice with the same avatar or signature.

No. Stop suggesting things. Please. Ontopic seems like more the sort of place for you. Go there.

I believe only one award has ever had the same winner over multiple years... I think it was the funniest PEELer one.... I might be wrong, but if I am, then that number is certainly less than five.

The voting for the best fanfiction and best fanart has always been less heard from than the other categories... I believe that that sort of thing should always be represented, but I think it might be best to combine them.  How many new fanfiction pieces have actually been created?  How about fanart?  And how many big name authors/artists has there been on our board over the last year?  I doubt that number is really more than 10.... if I'm wrong please correct me.

The same thing is applicable with your avatar maker award.  How many people can you name that have made avatars over the years trickster?  It's not worthless to make avatars, and the people who receive them appreciate them very much.  I'm not much of an avatar maker, but seeing one of the few I've made being worn by someone is quite an appreciation shown to me.  I did suggest a best custom avatar job award though.... this makes the pool a little larger since there are many custom made avatars each year; such an award shows the good taste of the PEELer that wears it and the artist that creates it.

Just because you're entirely Offtopic-centric doesn't mean the PEELies have to be.

Cram it Trickster!

I suggest 15 categories max. We need to keep these awards exclusive and sought after.

Cram it, Chay!  I concur.

I wonder who the real person most likely to not win an award was? Because whomever it actually was, it cannot have been you, BDC.

Unless there are so many awards that everybody wins at least one, someone who is most likely to win a particular award cannot also be the person who is least likely to win an award (i.e. most likely to win the lowest number of awards).

And while there were a lot of awards last year, there were still plenty of (active) PEELicans who didn't win any. Hence someone who was most likely to win one was NOT the person who was most likely to not win one. Specifically, the person who was most likely to win the "Most likely not to win an award" award was not the person who was most likely to not win an award.

So either...
  a)  you were not the person who was most likely to not win an award, but managed to beat the odds by winning this one anyway, or
  b)  you were the person who was most likely to win the "Most likely not to win an award" award.

Either way, this proves that you were not the person who was most likely to not win an award.  Q.E.D.

So who was it, I wonder?

Space isn't infinite.  Neither is time.

Anyways... all the joke awards were based on statistical information.  Or they weren't and we picked them.... now I can't remember.... I think the idea behind "Most Likely not to win" was that they were nominated for the most awards without actually winning.

Revised suggestion list:

  • PEELer of the year
  • PILF
  • Shyest PEELer (the one who's had the least visible/obvious board presence over the year)
  • Best picture
  • n00b with the most impact
  • Best post
  • Best link (from the link thread)
  • Nicest PEELer (all round good-egg).
  • Biggest board bully (PEELer ost likely to railroad other PEELers into doing their bidding or agreeing with them via sheer agression)
  • Highest mileage (PEELer who has racked up the most travelling in the name of PEELathons).
  • Best wiki page
  • Funniest PEELer
  • Most likely to go to Hell
  • Worst post
  • Worst avatar

Best and worst posts might be a bit overwhelming.  If we were keeping track of them on a monthly basis maybe, but we're talking about hundreds if not thousands of posts.  The same goes for the link award, not to mention the cross posting that tends to happen in the link, news, test, and video threads.

As for the shyness thing, much like the "least like to win" award, there are nearly limitless possibilities for nominees.

The debaucherousestness award is a pretty good one.

There are multiple people that have done that... and you have to be doing it on purpose, and I'm sure they have photographic proof of it.... it's not really an award achieving feat because if it isn't outright spam, it's borderlining it.  As far as I'm aware, it also hasn't occurred in a couple of years, and it's hard to verify who did it exactly when (even with photographic evidence since it can be manipulated).  Lastly, having such an award would probably motivate people to attempt it more often.

I agree with DrThunder on the best post/worst post thing.  I tried making a post of the month type dealie, but it's too time consuming for most people to want to keep up with.... and looking back over a whole year's worth of posts all at once, it's hard to see what really stands out, if anything.

Well it seems that most people are agreeing on a 15 award limit.  I think that is a good number.  I propose though that as we are narrowing down categories, we allow for a max number of awards to be 20, the min 15.  This way if we just can't agree on narrowing it down to exactly 15, a few extra awards may be added.  I think we would probably end up with about 16 or 17.  Sound Good?

As far as the negative awards go - I think it depends on the award and who ends up winning it.  Some people wouldn't care at all about winning a negative award, others would.  I think that should we include negative awards, the final nominees will be emailed or a PM and asked first if they accept the nomination.  That way its up to the peeler if they want to be included or not.

I also agree with Rach about the fanfiction/artist should be one award.

From the current ideas, we seem to all agree on the following categories.

Peeler of the Year
PILF
Best Picture
Best Wikipage
Funniest Peeler

So lets say those 5 spaces are taken up for sure - yes?

I agree with DrT that best and worst post require way too much keeping up with things. I think best and worst poster would be more practical.
Plus, if someone is offended by the worst poster award, that person might stop posting, so really it's a win-win.

What about: Poster most likely to turn into a meme?

I think we had something like that already spiffy.  Also, isn't Fazeshift already unofficially officially that?

Worst poster is slightly (by slightly I mean a lot) better than being accused of being a molestating stalker I suppose.  I think Amy suggested if we have negative awards, that she'd email the candidates before publicly revealing them.... if they don't want a part of it, they can say so... it sounds like a good compromise to me.  We had something similar in the joke awards last year, and it was named after hjay; I asked her before hand if she minded the award being named after her, and whenever she got it.. I forget the exact process we used, I asked her before that too, and she didn't mind either way.
