I'm pretty sure the 30th was the deadline, but I'm sure they'll be accommodating.

The deadline was officially the 30th, but I think we'll count noms until we're ready to post them.

At this point I think we are ready to post them seeing as trickster already did so in our evil council of doom. I have no problem with letting more noms come in though.

For the record, they've been counted. We're just waiting on the go-ahead from Slackit02. But since that go-ahead hasn't been made, it seems most council members feel that any nominations that are still coming in are fair game.
They can always be re-counted. I mean, it's not like we have gazillions of them yet. I think it would depend the variety and how many votes people make. I'd like to think the council is counting the votes at the moment and not just waiting for more to come through.
I'd like to think that you're not telling us what to do. But that would mean having more faith in the intelligence of humanity than I can muster. Shut the hell up. We'll do what we do when we can do what we can do. By which I mean, we've had pathetically few nominations, so we need more people to participate.

I think the lack of noms is due to apathy and burnout. Even though PEEL is picking up a few new members, PEEL is losing older members faster. The members like FemJesse, Shiny, Tongueluck, The Lesbian Leela, David A, Nerdo and even Lampy (that's just off the top of my head) have departed for parts unknown. Hell, even most of the mods are MIA. DrippyTaco, Slimmy and Kryten haven't been seen in a long time. Even VF hasn't been seen much lately - I'm assuming that her new job and new home are consuming a lot of time and energy. If so, good for her, she's making an effort to make her way in the world and I wish her the best.
What's left is the core that started with PEEL way back in 2001-2002. I'm sure the idea of another popularity contest just isn't as exciting as a few years ago.
The Futurama DVDs have been a disappointment and haven't really brought the influx of new members that I hoped they would - hell, they haven't even bought any of the old members back. PEEL is suppose to have 10,240 members at this time - probably half are double or triple accounts. Out of all those members, only a few dozen post with any regularity. That's really sad.
This is from me personally - I feel the magic of Futurama and of PEEL is now in the past. A few members who I appreciate have gotten small presents from me as thanks for giving me something to laugh at while I plow through life and its disappointments, but PEEL just isn't the same to me as it was just a few months ago.
This is in no way an insult to the people who have put time and effort behind Fall Madness and PEELies but I just don't care enough to go to the trouble of nominating people. I got an e-mail yesterday from another member stating concern that I'm not posting as much as I use to. It's true because the magic is gone. Pissfights with Ben or Jeremy bore me; my rants against the the Futurama DVDs are now getting old and nobody really cares. The players (DXC, Groening, FOX, etc) have gotten their money and could care less what the fans think, the fans who spent their hard-earned money for the DVDs may watch them a few times then put them away - the movie DVDs just don't compare to the old series. The magic is gone. One telling fact that the magic is gone - take a look at Billy West's messageboard - he hasn't made a Futurama-related post in over 6 months. If one of the star members of the show can't be bothered to say anything about the show, then I take that as a harbinger of things to come.

None of those people (except maybe VF and Nerdo and DavidA) nominated or voted for the PEELies last year, and we had the highest turnout out of any year. It's also not a huge awards dealy in the first place. But if I were to guess why the nominations are so low, I would guess apathy and burnout too... just in a different way. We just had like 3 or 4 big PEEL contests, and this one's already had a few years behind her. Besides, people have been in a pissy mood the last few months because of the general makeup of conversation. Oh... btw VF is in Vegas right now. What's left is the core that started with PEEL way back in 2001-2002. I'm sure the idea of another popularity contest just isn't as exciting as a few years ago. I don't know the exact numbers, but I doubt the core is actually people from 2001-2002. But yeah... the contest thing is wearing itself thin I'm sure. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure any message board that had been around for nearly a decade would have easily collected 10,000 members, but only retain something like 1% of members being truly active.... on a good day. And new members are still coming in. As for old members coming back because of the dvd; I have to disagree with you as a fact....although #fc is not PEEL. Thanks DrThunder. This is from me personally - I feel the magic of Futurama and of PEEL is now in the past. A few members who I appreciate have gotten small presents from me as thanks for giving me something to laugh at while I plow through life and its disappointments, but PEEL just isn't the same to me as it was just a few months ago. The magic of Futurama will wear off after awhile. It was and is a great show.... but watching the episodes a 70th time won't make it any better than the 69th time. PEEL on the other hand is slightly different. It's a community... it's made up of people, and people change. Maybe they get bored and/or boring sometimes, but that usually changes. We are fans of the show Futurama, but to me PEEL is about people who are fans of the show Futurama who come and talk about Futurama and other things. Will this place eventually fall to entropy and silence? Probably... but it's been going far longer than its original creator expected... and it outgrew the support he expected for it something like 7 or 8 years ago when he disappeared. This is in no way an insult to the people who have put time and effort behind Fall Madness and PEELies but I just don't care enough to go to the trouble of nominating people. I got an e-mail yesterday from another member stating concern that I'm not posting as much as I use to. It's true because the magic is gone. If one of the star members of the show can't be bothered to say anything about the show, then I take that as a harbinger of things to come. I don't think honesty is actually insulting; you say it because you feel compelled because you care. To be honest... the show died 5 years ago, but people stayed anyways. Maybe that says something. Or maybe it doesn't. I think there's something here to be learned about people's expectations.... things are rarely as exciting and compelling as we tend to make them out to be. Unfortunately, I learned myself a long time ago that conversations don't usually last. In a chatroom, I could have the best conversation with someone that spanned an entire evening; but I wasn't going to have that great conversation the next night. Nights and days like that come and go, and I suspect they'll come again. As for the awards dealie... I dunno. It seems a lot of people are more apathetic to it today. But I think it was a decent tradition. There are other contributing factors too I believe. Although this PEEL vault was created with good intentions, it appears to me it's out of sight and out of mind just enough for people to ignore it. The PEELies were always a battle anyways.... what with the emailing thing. It's hard to expect people to do something just a little extra; I'm far too lazy for that myself. Ralph 'disappointed, apathetic and depressed' Snart
There are a lot of times where we're disappointed. Apathy easily sets in. Why be depressed about it though? If you actually care... this time will come to pass just as well. One way or another. Btw, you haven't sent your noms in yet.

I think part of the reason that there's such a low voter turnout is that PEEL has sort of fractured into two camps. There are the on-topic posters (of which I am one) and the off-topic posters. The on-topic posters generally don't look at the off-topic discussions very often, and so they aren't wandering across the PEELies thread.
Ralph's right too, though. There aren't as many active posters as there were when I joined three years ago; not even close. We're just not retaining people like we were, and the new members that we do get seem really young, like highschool age.
(and before anyone asks why I wasted my time with this post when I could have been voting instead, its because I don't like popularity contests. Never have)
The On/Off topic thing has always been that way, that's not to blame, and whilst i think there are slightly fewer offtopic posters, more have sprung up in there place. I think people are just lazy, and they've stopped caring about these kind of competitions, it happened with POTM and it seems to be happening to the PEELies to. Oh well.

PEELies have become more offtopic-centric as of late. PEEL Spirit © has just been low in the last few months. It'll probably be back to normal in a few weeks.

I'm gonna jump in agreement with DrThunder. And I'm going to jump into disagreement with soylentOrange. I've never heard the on-topic posters vs. off-topic posters argument before in my life. And the active posting rate fluctuates, just like everything else. But as somebody pointed out to Farnsworth38 in a discussion we had a few days ago.... not posting has a snowballing effect. Somebody is probably reading your posts.... and if you stop posting, then they have less incentive to post. Thus, the discussions you would like to have had won't ever occur. It's like if you had a bag of marbles... and you time-travelled back in time 20 years and dropped the marbles off into a volcano. Then the marbles existed, but your parents didn't know about it. Kind of like putting hot air into a balloon. And I don't much like popularity contests either soylentOrange. However, I think everyone likes having recognition for something. I think recognition is a good thing, it makes people feel warm & fuzzy inside. Don't you like recognizing people for stuff soylentOrange? Granted... some of those awards aren't necessarily recognition.... but I'll be damned if we haven't had an award for fanfiction/fanart every year. Also, for the record I had no part in the #fc award. #fc is better than PEEL any day of the week.... I already know that. Also... one of those awards is for a thread. It's not supposed to be a popularity contest. As I am to believe how it was first conceived, it was supposed to be fun. And no one one thinks you're wasting your time posting soylentOrange; discussing things can be as good as doing things..... besides, try getting a bunch of random people from the internet to do stuff in an organized fashion; and they're the ones that said they wanted to do it in the first place! But maybe nobody wants PEELies or PotM anymore. Maybe we have to have the Test Thread taken away before we can appreciate it again. Like that one year where Santa was locked up, and Christmas never came!!

On a side note - if you dont care about the peelies, why voice that you dont care? Just dont vote. Ralph is like bitching about it in a few different threads...
Now I understand why you so unpopular with a lot of the PEELers. You take everything personally. I went out of my way to state that I wasn't insulting the people involved with the PEELies; I just gave my personal reasons why I felt they weren't doing any better. Seriously, the "Council" has spammed every thread to troll for more votes. I just stated that I felt that I felt that people were apathetic because of burnout. Somehow that comes out as "bitching" from you. Just let my comments die right here because I ignored your first insulting post towards me. Your last post towards me makes me and my "bitching" understand that you are as neurotic as many describe you as.
