Depends on the software you use. I use PSP 6 or PSP 8 Both have the short-cut [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[v], then click on the background of the pic and it's done. There are many other imaging-softwares which can do it (like PhotoShop, etc.) but I haven't tried them yet. It is possible that after you typed the short-cut PSP asks to set the pic to 256 colors.
