Could we possibly have a sticky thread at the top of offtopic entitled "the thread thread", where all new thread titles and suggestions must meet with Moderator approval or risk instant closure?

I ask this becase JoshTheater asked in the wikiPEELia thread if there was a thread where we could discuss potential threads. If thatthread gets opened, I'd prefer that it be in some official PEEL capacity, because it's such an insanely bad idea that somebody is likely to try it, and it's the sort of idea that could very quickly turn into ninteen pages of mindless crap that totally buries the one or three good ideas lurking somehwere in the middle, forgotten by all.

I ask mainly in the hope that somebody will say no, and should a thread thread ever be created, kill it with fire. However, I appreciate that the idea will probably appeal to somebody. God only knows precisel who. Maybe HJS.

I always thought that the test thread could be used for 'testing' ideas for new threads. Is this, in fact, true?

nice idea TNUK, and proposed a ton of time before. However, as far as I recall the old answers, sticky threads are impossbile.
Yes Xanfor, the test thread would at least be a better place to propose new ideas. Better than any other thread could every be.  ;)

Proposal:
We all know that General Disscussion has a game thead problem. There's tons of these games, and most of them a duplicates of the same thing. My idea is to open a "Games" forum. This would cut down on the Games in General Disscussion (obviously), but would also make it so Mods would have a specific place to go with games, posters would know where games were, and we could cut down on stupid spam/duplicate games. It would also organise PEEL a bit more before the (hopeful and supposed) rush of new members due to new episodes.

While it is on one hand a good idea it on the other hand isn't. Right now the games are what keeps the General Disscussion alive. If you take them out of there the Game section will be flooded even more (because it is specific for games) while the General Disscussion will die.

Nixorbo already announced that once the new episodes arrive he'll clean out all these games and reduce them to a minimum. Because then people obviously will have more practical stuff to talk about than playing games.

The only real difference between a mod and an ubermod is ubermods can ban, but not unban, members. Neither mods nor ubermods have access to basic forum parameters (like color, number of subforums, "episode of the week", layout, etc).

Admins can do whatever the feel like.

Also use the Search feature. Some good ideas have probably already been done.

Also remember some of PEEL's rules, such as no chat speak.

PEELies are at the end of the year.
POTM is supposed to be at the end of the month, if people open them at the right time. If you don't know when that is or the rules of POTM, don't open it.

I can tell this is about last time when I made it. I understand the rules, June was my birth month and I wanted to make one that time. Should've asked first.

Would it be possible to get a "top five threads" feature, making it possible to leap straight from the main page to one of the most popular areas of discussion?

I think that at one point in PEEL's history there was a "Top Thread" feature, but, due to added bandwidth/members, it had to be dumped. And with us expecting PEEL to get even bigger after the new Futurama content comes out, I think it's more and more likely that that won't come back, if it ever existed.

Gopher's discussing this thing in the Test Thread that allows for easier browsing. That kind of has something to do with a "Top Threads" feature.

Nope, there's never been such a feature. There was a Favorites feature once, but it had to be dropped due to being a resource hog.

The Top thread was something entirely different altogether. And, no, we still don't talk about it...

From the PEELer's FAQ:
The rules for signatures are:
Either GIF, JPG or PNG
Not heavily animated
No larger then 16KB
No higher then 120 pixels
No wider then 450 pixels
All UBB can be used in signatures except for the [IMG] tags.
I think there may be a restriction on animations in signatures now, but I'm not totally positive on that.

The unofficial restriction is that any animated signature mustn't give you eye cancer.

Well... some of us can be included in the we.  Anyways, what i_c_weiner said, plus... it doesn't actually add any more strain to anything to not delete them.

This isn't the correct place, but I may be able to help you.

If the PEEL or the CGEF applet won't work for you, you might try the EUIRC one.  It's actually a better applet anyways.

 http://www.euirc.net/en/chat.php

That link will get you to one of their applets.  You can use either the java based one or the open webchat one.  It probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference, unless you have a preference for that sort of thing; I usually pick the open webchat one.

Once you pick one, you'll be transported to a page outlining their rules and guidelines.  Just scroll to the bottom and hit accept, unless you really want all that stuff beforehand.

After clicking accept, you'll be taken to a new page.  Enter what name you want in the Nickname field, and pick a channel from the dropdown list.  #futuramachat is not in that dropdown list so just pick a random one, it is important that you pick a channel though or the applet won't logon correctly.

After it logs you onto the network, type /join #futuramachat.  Once you there, hopefully other people are there and you can talk to them.  :)

If you have any other problems with it, go to this thread Chatroom Thread next time, and I or someone else will try to help fix the problem.  If you can logon and get to #futuramachat and you have minor problems, I'm sure someone will be able to help you from there.

I know that was a little more in depth, hopefully you can figure it out.  Good luck, maybe I'll see you there.  :)

Once you're there for a while, somebody will inevitible tell you to get xchat or any other seperate irc client. They have far better functionality and customization features.

Um....

I just wanted to know why my thread was locked.

Seeing as how the mod who locked it didn't give me a reason for locking it and just said "No".
 http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/1-005355-1/

I'm just asking, but from the apparent locking of this thread, are "Do you think such-and-such should be referenced/parodied in Futurama" type threads not allowed on the forums?

I would assume so, but I just think that's kind of weird.  I mean, no offense, but what is wrong with a thread for people to speculate and/or have fan opinion on what people think would be cool for them to feature in a parody/reference on Futurama?

Or, was the thread simply in the wrong place?  Being new to this forum, I didn't know the propler place to put it, so if it went somewhere else, like in the Fanfiction forum, I wouldn't have known.

I'm going to say it was none of those things.  There are very few rules on what can and cannot be posted, and they're pretty fluid.  The moderators have it in their discretion to do what they feel is necessary.  Your thread probably wouldn't have been frequented much anyways.

I'd say for a reasonable answer, the biggest reasons why your thread was closed was because you're fairly new (no one would state this aloud, but it's a subconcious thing) and your thread was very narrow in subject matter.  A broader appeal would have been "What might you like to see referenced in futurama?".  It's also possible that there was a similar thread to yours created previously.  That's doubtful however, because Nixorbo loves shutting threads down and linking people to threads that were dead 3 years ago.

On an unreasonably inane matter, there's a good chance your thread was closed because it was about pokemon.  A lot of people don't take pokemon that seriously.

I think a more serious question to ask though is this.... Why haven't you been visiting us in #futuramachat FryFangirlLisa?  A lot of people have been asking recently, and we love new people.  Maybe we were a little over the top or not quite your cup of tea, for that I can only apologize; we are really nice people though, if you stay with us for awhile and get to know us.  I'd be willing to talk to you about pokemon, as I'm open for any kind of discussion, although I'm not the most knowledgeable on that subject.  I probably made fun of pokemon or some variant there of too.... I'm sorry for that also... we also tend to make fun of eachother in #futuramchat, but I can only assure you I mean no harm by it.

Ah, thanks for the explanation.

Yeah, I can see why my thread was closed now.  I guess I was too specific with my point of discussion there, lol.  ^^;

And about the chat, actually, I enjoyed it a lot the last time I visited.  The people there are really nice.  So I've been meaning to return this week.  I just haven't got a chance to (well, until now anyway).

I was kinda busy with work and such, and on days like those, I usually find myself going to bed earlier than usual.

Heh, people can make fun of Pokemon when I'm around (as long as it's in a joking manner), and I won't mind.

Oh yeah!  I hope that I will frequent #futuramachat, just as much as the other IRC channels that I visit on a daily basis.  ^_^

Which would you say is the best time to visit the chat?  Or rather, during what time of day is the chat most active?

It doesn't seem to be active late at night (I have Eastern time, by the way).  LOL.  XD
